I played in a band, and at several places we played, there were two songs that were forbidden to be played. Eric Clapton's Cocaine(just for the reference), and Mony Mony(because the crowd would all chant "hey, get laid, get fukced" as call and response during the chorus).

My friend who lives in Texas went to Billy's Dallas concert in september. I just asked her if people still sing that lyric. She said not anymore, or at least she didn't hear it.

I really got my start in the audio business, as a result of my willingness to do sound for fraternity parties, because all of the other guys in town hated them. In 1990, I went from working minimum wage jobs in college, to making a grand a week(hey, that was good money in 1990!). There were a few drunken idiots, but overall, I was having a ball, getting sh1tfaced with them, having the best time of my life.

"Hey, get laid get fukced!" Indeed...

jeez a grand a week would be good money for me NOW lol. i'm not living large over here. but good for you, filling a gap and making some money at a young age.

i assume you never DJ'd at the alpha phi delta house on riverside in trenton, NJ..? i can still smell the piss and beer that had seeped into the floorboards of that house. luckily some of it was linoleum which was easily mopped but the sticky sh*t still got into the cracks. ugh i *hated* parties because i was always the only sober one (and the only one w any sense.)

But certain songs were at EVERY friggin party, and that Mony Mony was one. Paradise by the dashboard light was another... Bohemian Rhapsody... the rest i may have blocked out haha

I worked my butt off for it, and loved every minute. I'm living pretty small these days. Sold my big house 4 years ago, and sold my condo in downtown Nashville this February, and bought a little house in the Nashville burbs. Simple is better, now. Honestly, a "big life" is overrated, and I'm glad that chapter is over.

I've never actually been to New Jersey. But I saw some crazy things at the fraternity parties, and fondly remember witnessing them.

Ugh, when I started doing sound in 1990, that's when grunge was taking over, and got to hear far too much of it! But I also got to do sound at a big club for a bunch of great artists. After 32 years, that also ended 4 years ago. Sh1t happens, and it was time for a new chapter.

Here in Peru, fraternities don’t exist. My perception might be skewed by police TV shows like L&O SVU or movies (showing disgusting initiation rituals) that tend to highlight only the worst, but actually I also read news about the same from time to time; so I tend to think that fraternities have more negative aspects than positive ones. In fact, I don't know what positive things they actually offer to college students. Future job opportunities? Professional networking?
