Seriously- I am clueless. I am not being intentionally obtuse. Solo means he is the focus of the album…. He is a drummer…. Stevie’s solo albums…she is the focus of the album. I don’t consider the band “The Zoo” a Mick Fleetwood solo project, it’s a band of collective musicians. He is the drummer in that band. So please explain it to me like I am 10.

My common sense agree with you. But The Visitor (1981) was known as his debut solo album. The Something Big (2004) was known as a The Mick Fleetwood Band album, with John and Jeremy as guests. In both cases no song was written by Mick. So I think in this case there will be something similar.

Anyway talking about Mick I can't help going back to sarcasm. Maybe he has bought the whole collection.

If Lindsey releases a solo album, it's not just him playing guitar and singing. If Stevie releases a solo album, it's not just her warbling into a microphone on her own. A "solo" album simply means someone who's famous (or infamous) for working in a band is releasing music under their name. The Zoo was a Mick-led project just as his The Visitor album was because he was the band's leader. The only difference is for The Visitor, he released it using his name only while I'm Not Me and Shakin' The Cage were with his name headlining the band.

Maybe this Solo Album will be Mick and previous friends he has played in bands with.

So, tracks could include Lindsey and Stevie….though not together ..
No John, I think he has truly hung up his bass…(sold them actually)

No, it means he is in CHARGE of the album/project and gets to decide who else plays on it and what they play etc. A solo album says "here's what I like and the kind of songs and music I like and the musicians I personally wanted to play music with" as opposed to a band which reflects the talents and tastes of all the various pesky members with the compromises that entails.

Solo albums are just someone saying "I get to be the big boss with the final say on what gets done and how"

Ok, are we really doing this. Explaining how solo albums work?

Lindsey is already confirmed to be playing and singing on the new album Mick has been working on for at least the last year. The producer of the Album is a dude called Carl Fark.

Lindsey has in the past used other musicians and collaborators on his solo records, but on the whole, he writes, produce's, engineers and plays everything on his records.

Stevie is not a musician, we all know this by now. Of course she needs others to produce, engineer, and play on her records.

Regarding Mick's records being deemed a 'solo' albums. If it has his name on it and other musicians record the vocals and instrumentation it's still a solo album. The Zoo was a collection of musicians that Mick had been gigging with in LA when FM was on hiatus 'I'm Not Me' is a great album, better than some of SN late 80's output. That album had a song of Lindsey's that he sung lead on. The Visitor was a different beast all together, frankly, Mick went to Africa to play with percussionists well before Paul Simon made 'Graceland'. It's also a bloody solid album.

Chris's, solo albums always had tunes not written by her. John had an album with his name on it, but obviously only played the bass.

It will be interesting to see how this album plays out. I won't be shocked if Mick has some great collabs on here. Big names singing lead and famous musicians playing on it.

Can I clarify this further?

Peace,

I think Sting explained very well in his first "solo" album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles:

Since I started this thing, people have constantly referred to it as my solo album, which of course is ridiculous. It's as if I have done everything myself, well I didn't. The contribution and commitment of all those involved...

I suppose it depends on the artist and the album. Take Out of the Cradle, Lindsey's masterpiece. It really is nearly all Lindsey. Obviously, a Mick equivalent to this capolavoro would be, well, somewhat different. It might have its moments.

I don't really think there's a formal definition of "solo album". I think it's just for emphasize when the artist is or has recently been a member of a band and that album is independent of that band. Because I don't think they usually say "solo album" for Celine Dion or Josh Groban. Even about Elton John, Bowie, or Paul McCartney, haven't said "his solo album" for decades.

Yes you nailed it. I also believe the term “solo album” is used when a member of a band releases an album without the other band members.

But seriously, before these explanations did you believe that Stevie Nicks played all of the instruments on all of the albums she released under her own name?
