In one of those little moments of serendipity, unless something remarkable happens in terms of sales, "Rumours" will enter its 1000th week on the UK album chart on the 7th July. Christine's 80th birthday anniversary will fall five days later, on the 12th.
This will be the first time that a studio album will have a achieved this milestone, although compilations from Queen, Abba and Bob Marley have done so. An added reason to raise a glass to our songbird, come the day.

And according to thisdayinmusic.com, Rumours went to No.1 on the UK album chart on jan 28 1978, 48 years ago. "The groups eleventh studio album went on to sell over 45 million copies world-wide and spent over 440 weeks on the UK chart. The songs 'Go Your Own Way', 'Dreams', 'Don't Stop', and 'You Make Loving Fun' were released as singles".
That was nine months after their concerts in UK. ![]()

42 years ago today, March 17, 1984: Christine McVie began her first of two weeks at #1 on the U.S. Billboard TOP TRACKS (ROCK) Chart with “Got A Hold On Me.” Here are the Top 30 ROCK TRACKS (based solely on rock radio airplay across the United States) from this week back in 1984. (tap on the chart for full viewing). Enjoy the memories!

Radio Ga-Ga was a song I learned to like. At first it was kind of meh. And I thought what happened to Queen??? But it was actually the right thing for them to change their sound. The classic 70s sound wasn't going to work for them anymore. Although Hot Space wasn't their best album of the 80s (if not their worst), they later got back on track. And their concerts were amazing.

I love looking back at top 20 lists, especially from the 80’s. So many truly great songs. My fave….New Moon on Monday. One of DD’s best. My gawd….compare lists like that to the s..t today. Will today’s kids look back on current lists in 20, 30, 40 years time with the same feelings? I doubt it. At least not to anywhere near the same extent. Evolution means things should get better. Music is the one area that bucks that. Though, I appreciate its subjective.

By that time I don’t think she was really a ‘name’ in the UK. Though she had some moderate fame back in the late 60’s, her first solo album was never a ‘hit’. She never really promoted ‘Christine McVie’ in the UK. She didn’t tour. And I think the music scene here back in those days had shifted a bit. I think her album was a bit too MOR to really catch a lot of sales. Those are my assumptions…but I was 10 at that time and didn’t really have an awareness of her or FM then so I can’t really say for sure.

I think that could be a reason. That chart contains different genres, but if you ask me about 1984, I immediately remember Eurythmics, Lauper, THOMPSON TWINS, Cultura Club and Duran Duran as great representatives of the 80s. Christine singles were moderate popular here but she didn't stand out much.
