I remember an interview where they mentioned other names for the Rumours album, but once John mentioned the album should be called Rumours (because of all the rumors going around about them, natch) they all agreed instantly that was the name. It would be interesting if anyone could remember what the other possible names were.

Behind the Mask was originally titled Twist of Fate.

I think, after Rumours, Tusk, and Mirage, Lindsey wanted to end the one word title streak, hence Tango in the Night.

I thought they were leaning towards Yesterday's Gone before John came up with Rumours.

Yes, you and jmn3 are right, as soon as you guys said that, I recognized it. Yesterday’s Gone is actually a good title and very fitting, but Rumours is the perfect title.

It’s serviceable but not nearly as endearing as Rumours. They pretty much nailed everything having to do with that album.

Agreed, the title Rumours (with the "u") gives it a certain magic.

Just the British way of spelling it..
Obv as John is British he would spell it like that.
But I wonder why they did use the British spelling ?

I love the British spelling. Rumors would just look dumb. Like having Silver Springs on the album.

Maybe because 3 of them were British. And it does look more majestic that way. I like it.
