In 2018, there was no novelty in the Stevie penned songs that were played live. Especially since the tour prior to 2018, they performed 7 Wonders and Sisters of the Moon which hadn't been played in decades.
I just know FM has never performed Isn’t It Midnight when Lindsey was in the band, and they have played it every tour he wasn’t. Maybe it is just a coincidence. I have no inside information, but if I’m right and Lindsey is the reason they didn’t perform the song live, so what? I’m not criticizing him for that. It’s just my opinion. I’m not saying he was difficult to work with, refused to play with his band mates, etc. Like I said, Christine was probably the easiest person to arrange a setlist with. If she’d felt passionately about it, I’m sure Lindsey would have performed it.

I was in shock in 1997 that Little Lies was not performed since Lindsey was back. He is on back up vocals and it was their biggest hit from their last studio album. However Chris had to make decisions based on the amount of songs she got and she put a new twist on Say You Love Me, and did Everywhere and did Oh Daddy instead of Little Lies. I am only guessing but the Rumours anniversary may have had something to do with it. I doubt it was Lindsey who blocked it.

I never said Lindsey blocked Isn’t It Midnight, refused to play it, or anything else of the sort. I’m sure they discuss the setlist and narrow the songs down to the ones they want to perform. I don’t think, nor did I say, that Lindsey refused to perform it, despite Christine’s passionate tears and begging him lol. I do think Christine was very easygoing about her setlist- I can almost guarantee you it was Stevie who chose All Over Again for their last tour, for example. If Christine offered Isn’t It Midnight, and anyone seemed less than enthusiastic about it, she was fine with leaving it out. In this case, I think it was Lindsey, based on the simple fact that in three incarnations of the band, only the one with Lindsey hasn’t performed it. That’s my logic, and it doesn’t seem incomprehensible to me.

The Dance was also the first time that Lindsey had played GOLD DUST WOMAN since 1978. I always thought that was really bizarre.

Then again, TUSK the album was only represented on the DANCE tour with two songs, right? NOT THAT FUNNY and TUSK? The biggest single on TUSK was never played in 1997.

I don’t think Lindsey wanted to play Isn’t it Midnight live either. But if he didn’t like it, it probably would never have gotten on the album. He co-wrote it.

There is an alternate take of Isn’t It Midnight on the Chain boxset, I believe credited to only Christine and Eddy, which I took to mean Lindsey added the incredible guitar and music we get on the final version on Tango. There could be several reasons Lindsey didn’t want to play it live (if that was indeed the case). Maybe he felt the song was too ‘pop sounding’ or maybe he didn’t want to waste his time on a guitar solo on that particular song. It is fascinating to me that he co-wrote it, but never performed it live. All the more reason I think he didn’t care to perform it live. Again, I’m sure if Christine had said she really wanted to perform it, he would have.

I have nothing to back this up. But, I highly doubt Lindsey would veto Christine if she wanted to play this song. Maybe someone struggled with a note or two vocally, or they liked the way one of her other songs came across.

Also, it's a reunion celebrating Christine's return. Her hits are what would come front and center.

Personally, it's one of my favorite songs.

I have no idea why Lindsey never played it live, but whether or not he liked the song, it was absolutely necessary for side 2 on TITN, otherwise, Little Lies would have been the rocker.

Yes, you never know whether they rehearsed it and found it just didn't come off well.

But you won't say that Stevie dug deep in her song library on stage while Lindsey was in the band. With Billy and Rick or with Neil and Mike she did the usual stuff.
But nevermind, Lindsey isn't able to play Isn't It Midnight on guitar.
