I agree that this song, and this album, are lost underrated masterpieces. This album really needs more love and attention within the fan community. It’s seems it’s always being dismissed simply because of the production. That’s a shame because it was 1989 and Stevie (and Rupert) really could’ve went all out and produced and even more “synthy” sound then they did. I think it’s a good combination of what Stevie’s solo sound already was with a few electronic flourishes and it all had an appealing balance to it. I’m grateful that she wrote the songs before she lost her ability to write at all because of klonopin. It really feels like she’s correct when she calls it her magic album. Ive been listening to it non-stop for the past 2 months. Rooms On Fire is still breathtaking to this day, as is Ooh My Love. I have to add that Long Way To Go, Ghosts and Alice are my other favorites. With Doing The Best I Can (Escape From Berlin) as an honorable mention. I love the whole Alice In Wonderland/Gothy vibe going on, as well.

I just love this song!

It's a shame it was never done live. Though it was apparently considered for the 'Street Angel' tour.

Of course the song is fantastic but the rest of the album is pretty good. I am always so surprised why OSOTM gets lost or flamed for being a bad album because of a Kenny G sax solo or something.
I just did my review of the album which does contain a few duds IMHO. However, the rest of the album is wonderful. I do agree with Stevie in a sense that it was her last great album. So sad more people don't see that. Her writing was so personal and auto-biographical - even more so than she normally does. And I agree with the other poster who said coming from 1989, the album could have been so more 80s or synth but it wasn't. It was very grounded for 1989. I admire that about the album. Good gosh, RAL was a disaster IMHO. Even Tango is more synth pop than OSOTM.
Its personal, magical, so well written and produced. Besides Bella Donna, Stevie's writing and craft of songs is the best on this album.

I agree that Ooh My Love is a great song. It has stood the test of time for me also. The fact that it has never been done live is because Stevie is rarely brave enough to take risks. I wish she would, in addition to playing all the songs the live audience wants to hear, perform 3 songs from each solo album every night of her next solo tour. You know, like change it up every show. But I am living in a fantasy world cause we all know that ain't EVER going to happen. But a guy can dream, right?

I would like to add, that towards the end of the song when she sings, and her voice cracks “Hey hey baby, no one can take you away from me, no, no one...” gets me EVERY TIME! It’s a powerful track, that’s for sure. An improvement over that TITN demo. I guess we can thank Rick Nowels for his involvement in the songwriting.

The Tango demo is a joke. I cant believe they even included it in the package. Stevie is incoherent and sounds drunk. Not much of a music track either.
Lots of reasons to like the song but Jerry Marotta's drumming really takes the song to another level. Thank goodness no drum machine here since its 1988/89 and would have been commonly used.

I loved the TITN version! I thought the darker arpeggiator and one more Stevie track was basically what the whole album lacked for cohesion. "Where in the world did you come from? You with your flashing eyes," that line got me me right in the spot that made me fall in love with her music to begin with. Edit: I love the OSOTM version too.

Jerry Marotta is such a good drummer. I loved his work with the Indigo Girls (he even sang lead on a small part of one of their songs, lol), and he played with Sarah McLachlan, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs....

Well, it’s interesting that the master reel version actually DOES have drum programming. As do the versions of Rooms On Fire and Long Way To Go. Of course those were just to lay down other instrumental tracks and Stevie’s vocals, because the officially released versions of those songs obviously have live drums on them, which must have been recorded separately later on. Rupert Hine certainly had an interesting approach when it came to recording, especially for this album.

Definitely needs some work, but I was struck by how much it genuinely does sound like Petty's "Runaway Trains." Can't say I'm surprised he had the reaction he did.

Her voice is such a shadow of what it was in the 70s on this, she's waaaay out of tune in whole sections, but then it also lacks the raw power of her truly coked out vocals. She really trashed her god-given voice with the drugs and by not taking care of it. She was a mess during this period and this demo sure attests to it.
