she played a keyboard line in the middle of Landslide on the Tusk tour, it's on the Live album.

interesting placement of the new members onstage.....Mike in Lindsey's spot, and Neil between Stevie and Christine.... Stevie stays front and center.

Stevie needs someone to look at, to direct her theatrics to, and Mike isn't really that person, so she seems to be trying to do that with Neil instead. I don't like him being a sort of barrier (even if unintended) between her interacting with Chris.

The other thing that strikes me is that Christine's last tour was her and Lindsey; this time it's her and Stevie.

Fleetwood Mac debuted their new Lindsey-Buckingham-less lineup today on Ellen. Reportedly due to “scheduling conflicts” over the band’s 2018 tour, Buckingham parted ways with Fleetwood Mac in April (and not for the first time). The seemingly displeased singer-songwriter is now planning on touring solo during the same time frame as the new Mac lineup, which features Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz) on vocals and guitar and big-hat aficionado Mike Campbell, of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame, on lead guitar.

On Ellen, the new Mac ran through the beloved Rumours ensemble number “The Chain” and their silky-smooth Mirage hit “Gypsy,” which highlights Stevie Nicks. The sound of the band, with its newfound dual guitar interplay, has an appealingly full quality, though it doesn’t look like anyone is having too much fun onstage. The possible exception: Nicks, who gesticulates playfully and beams throughout “Gypsy” (the better of the two performances) and Campbell, who very apparently just loves to wail.

Do the sparks fly implicitly between Nicks and Neil Finn when they stare at each other across the stage, with the same bittersweet alchemy of Nicks and Buckingham in the golden days? Of course not, but it might actually be less uncomfortable than watching Nicks and Buckingham’s attempts to recreate that over the course of the past couple of decades, when it’s been unclear if they even speak to one another without the help of personal assistants.

Fleetwood Mac are set to embark on an extensive North American tour next month. The 52-date outing will see the legendary outfit incorporating new members Mike Campbell, the longtime lead guitarist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn, who were both brought into the fold to replace Lindsey Buckingham. During their appearance on Ellen this afternoon, Fleetwood Mac debuted this lineup live for the first time, as JamBase points out.

Longtime members Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie were joined onstage by Campbell and Finn as this new iteration of Fleetwood Mac rolled through two classic catalog cuts. Finn helped lead the way through Rumours staple “The Chain”, while Nicks took the reins during Mirage selection “Gypsy”.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Nicks said the addition of Campbell and Finn would allow Fleetwood Mac to play songs from the entirety of their catalog on this upcoming tour. “We were never able to do that since 1975 because certain people in the band weren’t interested in doing that,” Nicks was quoted as saying. “Now we’re able to open the set with a lot; a raucous version of ‘Rattlesnake Shake’ or something. I’d also like to do ‘Station Man,’ which has always been one of may favorites. We’re definitely doing ‘Oh Well.’”

In the future, Fleetwood Mac also plan to record new music with Campbell and Finn.

Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac back in April over disagreements regarding the scheduling of this upcoming tour. He’s set to launch his own solo tour in October.

Their placement did indeed take me by surprise..as did Christine directly facing the audience rather than her usual more side-on position. But really, what is it with Christine and her ever-diminishing keyboard work? Laziness or arthritis? That we didn't hear her voice much is another niggling worry. She just about got away with it on the last Mac tour with the occasional falsetto and the odd forgivable flub.

I liked Mike's guitar work on the Chain. Neil did not have a commanding presence.. he wasn't lost in the headlights.. he was just kind of... there, although his position between Stevie and Christine seemed to reduce Stevie's aura, somewhat. Who knows, that might be a good thing, but her fans may not agree.

Mick looked happy- maybe he's just banked an advance cheque. John's the company man. The studio audience appeared to have been hypnotised into merrily drawing down the Kool-Aid.

It's early days in this latest of stages, but I wasn't convinced, hyped or enthused. Neither was I repulsed, outraged or resigned to not following the remnants of the Mac's career.

But Lindsey has left the building, or been directed forcefully to the exit. And my goodness, the reality has firmly bitten.

Very homogenized. NO chemistry. I enjoyed the Billy/Rick years better. Love Mike, but it just didn't work for me. Miss Lindsey very much. Not impressed at all. Neil is very bland. This isn't going to work.

i wonder if she were more turned sideways as she always was in the past it would just make it far too obvious she's not playing. When she's turned to the front, as she was on the BuckVie tour, it's much harder to see her hands.
