Fleetwood Mac is a gender bender of a band. As mentioned,
the women have men's names. The lead guitarist name sounds
womanly. And he's a rather petite fellow. Then there's Mick and
John's wedding photo. Just buying the album Rumours is risking
a chance at an STD.

I've told this story before but it's a good one.

It was 1974-1975, and my dorm mates and I were big fans of the Bob Welch era FM. When the "White Album" came out we purchased and listened, and thought this new female guitarist Lindsey was incredible, and the new male singer Stevie didn't contribute all that much except some good lead and harmony vocals.

Imagine our surprise when we got to the concert to find that Stevie was the woman and Lindsey the man. I don't think I've ever really gotten over the surprise.

Probably the fact that on the album back cover Stevie's and Lindsey's names had been swapped didn't help.
However the first time I've actually heard about Fleetwood Mac in high-school I also misunderstood that Lindsey was the guitarist woman and Stevie was the vocalist man. Thankfully after that I stumbled upon VH1 100 greatest rock band of all time or something similar and there one of the rockstar they interviewed said "Stevie Nicks was the most beautiful woman you'd ever seen" and I finally understood.

And of course there was the magazine article (or whatever) that had their names backwards in the caption for that promo pic. That certainly didn't help the confusion!

Nor did Lindsey's feminine mannerisms!

I think every fan has the initial Stevie/Lindsey confusion, it's part of the process!

Now that we're questioning Lindsey's gender. If he/she
were a man he should take charge of this Stevie situation.
Like "you're with us, or against us".

Not being able to make a decision proves he's a woman.
At least that's what ole Alec says.
