SYW was the last great outing for them for now.

For whatever my two cents are worth... I think they are crafting like FM only knows how to do... Slowly. These are the people that have a rather short, given the years, however substantive album catelog. I really don't think they are going to hastly put something together. Regardless of SN amd LB's working relationship, she knows the magic he does to her songs - that FM thang. It just might be very important to them to put out "a cherry on the sundae" kinda album, regardless of album sales. Lindsey might agrue that point. It's about legency at this point. If it takes a little bit time, so be it. And stretching out the costs, is less painfull.
Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a "making of" kinda doc also. The editing of that will take some time. The album "package" will take time. I just don't see them going out small. And big, takes time...

I hope they aren't focusing on album sales, coz by now they should know better. Touring behind a new album of new music which adds to your legacy in a more lasting way is really the only way to tour again, IMHO. Who needs another golden oldies tour. But I suspect that's what we'll get. Maybe Stevie thinks her artistic legacy will come from one more solo album. And FM is her financial legacy. ![]()

Of course every artist hopes for their work to be received well and become commercially viable. But we're talking about a world-wide, esteemed fifty-something year-old band. I believe they are well aware of their place in today's market. They shouldn't expect the chart-busting sales from days past. However, given this significant circumstance (where this will likely the last new music from such a historic band), it's reasonable to assume the album will succeed in major markets throughout the worl. I hope the music on their farewell album is approached with less emphasis on trying to be being current/commercial, and more about being seamless/timeless. They really have nothing to lose now.

I think most members are aware of their place in today's market, I think the real grey area is how some members (ok probably one member in mind...) choose to accept that reality & how they choose to let their ego be affected by it.

I think if they did a new album and toured it, it would do really well. It's all in the marketing.

I hear you. John should just stick to playing bass and stop stressing over useless sales info!

I take some time away from the board and I miss all the good fart jokes! Anyway...looking forward to whatever they come up with, whenever that is. 2017 isn't all that far away for another go round. If it actually IS the last one I might even travel to see a handful. Even with a new album though there will be what, 3 or 4 songs swapped out for new ones? Don't shoot me, but I'd rather hear the ones that didn't make the cut for OWTS...
