Sorry to say that I really don't listen to it.
I just pulled it out and I really like Destiny. Blue Denim and Rose Garden are ok, but one song (Destiny) isn't enough for me to pull the album out. I've got too many others laying around. Thanks for reminding me about Destiny. I'll put it on the next compilation cd I make for myself. susieq ![]() |

I don't really listen to it but I have lifted Rose Garden off for a few compilations..it is my favorite and to me the best song on the album!..Ive got an early demo of Destiny which is great ....in 94 I was however going through a bit of a Stevie Lul ..( student discovery crap!) so I think I never really liked it from the start..maybe I should rediscover !

I remember buying the cassette on the day of it's release, and I'm still in lurve with "Greta" (or "GretTa" as it is know in Japan...hmm).
"God's Garden" however scares the kakadoodee out of me. ![]() |

Street Angel is a poorly done album. The only good stuff I think is Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind, Blue Denim and Kick It. The rest I think is mediocre at best.

Street Angel is appalling to these ears.
Besides for Greta, Blue Denim, and Rose Garden (bad production), the others STINK. She didn't even write very much for it and it shows. If I wanted a Sandy Stewart album, I'd buy one. I don't buy Stevie Nicks albums so that I can hear about washing clothes, chimps, the Phantom of the Opera, homeless people, and making love like a woman. Sorry, but it just sucked. Plus, the singing was very uninspired and the production values were gawd awful. And I still stand by my thoughts that some people steered clear because they took one look at the cover art and gagged. ![]()

Sorry...I respect everyone's opinions but save Greta and Rose Garden....this album gets a big YUCK from me.
I've had this CD for almost 10 years and I think i've listened to it a dozen times...each time trying to find SOMETHING...but it's hollow...granted I know Stevie was going through some very difficult times and wasn't 'quite herself' and maybe that's why it is almost painful to listen to...we all realized she was a shell of her former self at that point. Still and all...a throw it on from time to time and TRY to find something 'magical' but can't... But, hey it happens to the best of 'em And she's doing AMAZINGLY well now ...Stevie looks happy and healthy and beautiful and that's all that matters!!![]() |

It's nice to see others who heart "Greta".
"Blue Denim" never did anything for me, nor did the boxed set mix...but having heard the single version, it's a step in the right direction. I believe Chris Lord-Alge to be Stevie's solo songs' best friend, and at least by this point (1994, after Timespace) should have had more input in making Street Angel a cohesive piece in spite of the songs themselves. "Greta" aside, "Kick It" and "Maybe Love" can be heard blasting through my speakers should the mood strike (I usually have to be a week deep in a non-stop Stevie-thon to fully appreciate them, but it has been known to happen.) At the very least 1 or 2 of the songs on Street Angel can be put to good use on a compilation CDR. Deep lyric alert: "Street angels live on the streets, my street angel". ![]() |

"Children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee..." or my favorite: "The one condition of love is...there are no conditions..." Those make me laugh uncontrollably. Not to mention the fact that she sound like a chipmunk on Jane. ![]()

I actually like this album....though there are the couple of songs that I always skip over...
I don't like the Street Angel song...or Jane and I can pretty much listen to the rest of it... I recognize that it is her weakest effort, but I still enjoy it from time to time... I actually think that the line "The one condition of love...is there are none at all..." is good... lol...But the chimpanzee and street angel and laundromat lines...*cringe* |

'Street Angel' is a good album, with great songs, marred by sludgy production.
Aside from the "what was she thinking?" inclusions of "Docklands," and "Just Like A Woman," there really is nothing wrong with the song selection, IMO. I happen to quite enjoy "Unconditional Love"... I think it's a sweet, lilting song, very much unlike the songs Stevie usually sings, and yet one which fits perfectly with Stevie's personality. And I even like the line, "the one condition of love, is there are none at all." Sure, it seems to contradict itself, but it makes perfect sense within the framework of a sweet little pop love song. I also like "Listen To The Rain," and its references. My favorite TV show around that time was 'Dark Shadows'... and my favorite books were 'Beauty And The Beast,' and 'Phantom Of The Opera.' So I've always thought it was pretty cool that Stevie mentioned each of those. As I've said, I believe 'Street Angel' is unfairly maligned... often by folks who perennially desire Stevie to continue catching the lightning in a bottle that was 'Bella Donna' (which isn't even my favorite Stevie album).

People didn't necessarily want another Bella Donna, they knew they weren't going to get one, as her other solo albums proved. They just wanted a *Stevie* album, which isn't what Street Angel was or is, IMO. It's a middle-of-the-road, pop-shclock extravaganza with few songs written by Stevie and the rest taken from mediocre songwriters. The ones that Stevie did write were old demos and outtakes or songs that were newly written but lacked any oomph or spark. And not only is it marred by BAD production, but it's also marred by awful lyrics, lame melodies, and terrible vocals. The vocals are the worst on any of her albums; there empty and contain no emotion, it's just Stevie going through the motions of singing like she did on the Timespace tour. And none of the songs flow together very well. It's just a really, really, really, really bad album. I can't understand how anyone could put it next to her other albums and FM songs and call it good. It's awful, IMO.

I definitely prefer them to her vocals on 'The Other Side Of The Mirror,' which... to my ears... are sometimes harsh. And yeah, I'll grant you there are a few lyrical miscues here and there ("Street angels live on the street, and they always will" or "The children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee"), but I think stating that the album is "marred by awful lyrics" is a bit exaggerated. Still, we're all entitled to our opinions... and what a boring world it would be if we all agreed on everything. 'Street Angel' will never be my favorite album, but it's definitely not my least favorite album, either. ![]()
