I see and understand the points here.I did support Life mag by picking up the FM special issue.Ive always enjoyed reading Life mag since I was a kid.

I always prefer a hardcopy then a digital copy of anything.

I rant and stressed enough on here on hating album digital copies but what I do enjoy is the digital backcopies of magazines from years ago from current publishers and past publishers.

As I probably have some of those old magazines in my garage .I do enjoy going online and read them again without going out into the garage or in the basement and lift tons of boxes looking for issues that I want to read again.My back appreciates it.

Googlebooks,Archive.org are loaded with old books and magazines to read.

As a electronics and TV/Radio geek .I enjoy going to my friends David G's website American Radio History.com .

He has a awesome collection of magazines ,books ,ETC in broadcasting and electronics field.

Probably whats driving readers to go online looking for freebies is the price what the publishers are charging for these mags.

Which is understandable .Producing them and cost of living drove up the cost of from the old reasonable US 99 cents to $1.99 a issue to $3.99 plus a issue and these special issues like the FM Life special at $14.99.


I remember most were .50 to .75 cents an issue.I'm showing my age.LOL................................Time have change.............

In the Bare Trees review, they even quoted our findings about Mrs Scarrott from the "In search of the Hampshire years" thread, which I started.

That gives me some pride after all these years of devotion to the Mac.

The album ends with a poem of a different sort. "Thoughts On A Grey Day", a rumination on winter weather and the birth of a baby, is read aloud - a little too quickly and enthusiastically - by a Hampshire neighbour of the band's named Mrs Scarrott, whose joy at the sight of bare trees nicely complements Kirwan's air of tragic melancholy. In January 2015, an enterprising fan on the Mac messageboard The Ledge found out some details about Mrs Scarrott by searching online birth registers. Originally from Eastbourne, Aileen Scarrott was 68 years old and thrice-married by the time she made her appearance on Bare Trees. She was the third wife of her husband, Harry, whose voice can be heard behind her. Three marriages each? They were certainly the right couple for a Fleetwood Mac album.

Nice quip at the end about multiple marriages - although technically Harry and Aileen were twice widowed when they married so not the typical Mac type of re-coupling.

Has this been released in the States yet? I've been going to all the large bookshops in my area that carry a huge selection of music magazines (including Uncut) for the past three or four weeks since I saw this thread, but I still can't find a copy.

I found it at the bookstore at the train station in my home town; it was very well worth the 14 euro.
I haven't found any mention of 'The purple dancer' yet; my favourite FM song.

I have to look in a couple specialty book shops in the area at the mall.They sometimes stock out of the country mags and books.

I just looked on line. With postage, it's $23 to get it in the US. Hmm. How badly do I want it? I found a bookstore that sells Uncut here in SF, but it didn't have that issue.

Excellent issue covering all eras of the band in valuable original extensive NME interviews. The albums reviews are OK, quite informative but it's one of those things where one tends to disagree - Kiln House gets a higher rating than Then Play On, for example.
