Didn't say she had to. I said she can't. Frankly, she has nothing to contribute. The only reason she can hold the band hostage is because a long time ago she became the face of the band to the fans, and the rest of the band sees their bank accounts shrinking at the prospect of carrying on without her. Sadly, she is the least talented member.

of course that's a matter of opinion, and everyone is welcome to their own opinions.

but a fact is that Stevie *is* the most commercial of them all and can sell a lot of tickets. You may believe commercialism is overrated, and you may prefer one of the other members, all well and good, but from a business angle, she still gets the most bums in seats as they say. As many as all 5? -- obviously not. But realistically, the most of any of the 3 singers/writers.

This is why she can hold them hostage, sadly.

I think its flat out wrong to assert Nicks can't write a decent song anymore. Her songwriting has really rebounded since the nadir of the Street Angel days. "Trouble In Shangri-La", "Love Is", "Fall From Grace", "Bombay Sapphires", "Say You Will", "Thrown Down", "Destiny Rules", "Illume", "Space Needle", are all excellent songs and are all recent compositions. She went on a tangent writing songs with Dave Stewart for In Your Dreams, and she had limited time so she went with developing demos for 24 Karat Gold, but she obviously can still write very good songs.

For Stevie, it's all about the production. I think both she and the band are trying to figure out what they want, and that's where they disagree. There's no doubt they can crank out songs...but what really makes the songs work is how they sound and the overall sound they are going for. I feel that hasn't gelled 100% in a long time.

With Lindsey at the helm, their five signature albums from 1975- 1987 gelled. Say You Will is the only other album he made with Fleetwood Mac, sixteen years later. Being that is was the first band album without Christine, it was essentially a Buckingham Nicks album with Mick and John being their rhythm section.

His production style had changed, so the album only has glimmers of the established Rumours-era sound. It's a different animal, but not an unprecedented contrast in the history of the band. Consider that drastic change of style between Then Play On & Kiln House, or Heroes Are Hard to Find & Fleetwood Mac.

Some theorize that Stevie was unhappy with how he produced her Say You Will songs. I think it has less to do with that, more to do with her contentious relationship with him. Stevie was in a gloomy mood then, dealing with the death of her mother. Lindsey's production style isn't stuck in Say You Will mode. The production on his duet with Stevie on Twisted gelled as song with a classic Fleetwood Mac feel. Stevie owes a lot to Lindsey for her success. And she should pull the stick out of her ass and inconvenience her precious self to take part in the final chapter of Fleetwood Mac. This is not the time to play the diva card. Grow up.

Even if any of those songs were at the level of Sara, Dreams or Landslide -- which they are not -- they are still more than a decade old. My contention is that right now Stevie can't write a decent song. There's no shame in that. Some writers have brilliant output until their dying breath, while others fade after a burst of brillance. Such is life.

You people on this board act like you speak to the members of the band on an ongoing basis. How do you know she hasn't written an awesome song in the last couple of months? And as far as everything being Stevie's fault...you are probably right. She is the main reason they are still touring and making millions of dollars. If they didn't have that, Lindsey Buckingham (who most everyone I know thinks is a pompous ass and cant handle when anyone else in the band is the center of attention) wouldn't be able to even put out that music. He wouldn't the money or the backing without all this touring with FM. I hope Stevie does walk away from this band...just to give you people what you supposedly want. And then FM will be never heard from again in any major way...but Stevie will.

I frankly couldn't care less if FM records ever again, and I don't go to their nostalgia shows because I'd rather hear fresh music, especially if I'm expected to pay a couple hundred dollars for a ticket. I just wish they would end this dance so Lindsey can go back to his solo career and put out music that is far more interesting and gratifying than what this band is likely to produce. If the four-song EP is any indication of the quality of music FM would release in a new album, I would definitely pass.

Overall, this is just such a waste of time. Here you have one of the least prolific, yet famous, bands of all time unable to put out new music -- a band that has inspired countless others and is often held up as a significant contributor to the history of rock. If this is how FM goes out, it's so terribly pathetic and sad. And it's all Stevie's fault.

Trust me, if Stevie f*cks up this reunion studio album I will join you in the Stevie Nicks bashing. Even though she is my favorite member, I would still prefer another FM studio album over another Stevie solo album. I really want to hear the new Christine recordings more than anything else.

I would be more than happy with this album if it was comprised of 6 new songs by McVie, 4 new songs by Buckingham, and 2 new songs by Nicks.
As long as this album comes out!
