Stevie Recording A New Album With Dave Stewart Producing In Nashville...

Agreed, PenguinHead! If Dave had just taken the role of Producer for IYD, left social media out of the equation, and done nothing else except work on her songs, then we would have had...

NO CONSTANT UPDATES
NO SIZZLE REEL
NO DOCUMENTARY
NO MUSIC VIDEOS (even as lame as a couple of them are)
NO RECORD RELEASE SHOW AT THE WILTERN

Dave was responsible for ALL of those things. I don't think Warners gives a flying f**k about promoting her solo career these days. They haven't for quite some time, actually. Just look at the crappy promotion for both "Crystal Visions" and "Soundstage". If she had chosen a different producer for the project that would become IYD, I seriously DOUBT that Warners would have spent any money on even ONE music video for the album.

I feel Dave had to "sell the idea" of IYD to Warners promotion and marketing, using resources from his own production company, Weapons Of Mass Distraction and a lot of his own money. He believed in Stevie and their project so much.

I feel he's doing the same thing this time around as well, although in a much more limited capacity, since the goal (it seems) is to get the album out ASAP.

There are very few Producers this day and age who have any say, whatsoever, in the marketing and promotion of a band ensconced within a huge record label. Dave has done a fantastic job. It seems he's already sold them on the idea of putting this album out in a vinyl format. Hopefully, he can convince them to put out some music videos as well. If not, then maybe he'll use his company to film a couple (although hopefully they won't be shot inside her house. LOL)

I'm not sure how tech/social media savvy that the 5 band members of Fleetwood Mac are, but I guarantee you that when they start putting the new album together next year, we're not going to get nearly as many updates on that project as Dave has been giving us on Stevie's. I do, however, think Warners will take more of a serious interest in their promotion and marketing, seeing as how Christine is back and this is basically the first studio album with all 5 members since 87. Almost 30 years. Doubtful that any music videos will be shot, though. At least not anything more than a "live" setting like the lame "Peacekeeper" and "Say You Will" videos.

Sorry to rant. I guess I should have just concurred with PenguinHead and James89 by saying "THANK YOU" to Dave Stewart and all his efforts to keep Stevie's career going forward and keeping all of us excited! Yay!

No amount of social media leakage will change the fact that there are those who simply dislike the sound Dave has brought to the table for Stevie's production thus far. It's a perfectly reasonable position to take.

Personally I am thankful to Dave for the "hype" he brings to these records which would likely pass under the radar otherwise, but I don't get that much out of them myself. I'm basically in a "call me when the first single drops" kind of mindset.

I actually really enjoy a lot of Dave's work and think IYD is brilliant. But I agree that their voices simply do not compliment each other. The Dave/Stevie duets/harmonies on IYD were clearly not born from musical merit, and were simply a product of two friends wanting to do a lot of work together. I think/hope they've gotten that sort of "honeymoon" impulse out of their systems.

I'd actually really like Stevie to do a record with... wait for it... No celebrity guest stars. Anywhere. Radical stuff, huh?

I don't see Dave as having a big ego. His intentions with Stevie seem to be very pure.
Nor do I think he will be singing on her new album. Cheaper than Free is what is, but just because he is producing her new album doesn't mean there will be another song like that.

I think he is a great muse and inspiration for Stevie. You have your valid opinion of his influence on her sound, and I have my valid opinion. I hardly think he is doing any damage to her songs.I love his approach, as does Stevie. If Dave wasn't in the picture, there would likely be no songs or albums at all - no In Your Dreams album, and no new album to look forward to. When was the last time Stevie recorded a new album only several years apart? No gratitude what so ever?

Not from people who don't like the album.

I adore IYD. But I don't get this mentality that we all need to feel indebted to Dave for simply getting Stevie on the ball in producing studio content again. If someone genuinely dislikes the content she's releasing now, why would they be thankful for it?

I'm not saying I understand how any Stevie fan would dislike IYD, but some clearly do, and there's a tone of righteous indignation on these boards towards people with any negative opinions at all that makes me really twitchy. These "shut up and just be thankful she's doing anything" arguments could've been used in defense of any bad content she's released since she made her millions in the 70s. But it just doesn't really mean much.
