my take was that Lindsey just wanted to put out some new material before that tour since he didn't want to do another purely greatest hits tour. that was the jest of his speech when he was introducing Sad Angel too. they went into the studio, he wanted to perform some of the new material, and since they didn't finish the album at the time, putting some songs out for download was the second best thing. the actual EP format seemed to have been Stevie's idea. at first they were just going to make 2 songs available on itunes - Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy.

I'm still curious about his comment from a few months ago that the record company was pushing for a new album. What record company? It seems highly unlikely that any label would be pushing for it. Michele |

Remember when they were doing press for the EP and he expressed his dismay because the thing she most wanted to talk about was the Buckingham Nicks track? I didn't understand his dismay. Sometimes I think it's a miracle that these two happened in any way. I don't think they really get each other at all and that gap has only continued to widen as the years have gone by. Strange are the ways of a very complicated world indeed... Why did Stevie suggest that track for the EP? |

I can't decide if this is creepy or hot. Maybe a bit of both, as I find Lindsey too pinched and pink toned for my own tastes. He was sexy from 78-82. All downhill from there.
As far as the album goes, the only way they could have finished one is to push the tour till next spring. No way they would pass up the summer touring season, so this is the only thing that makes sense. Chris gets to become more comfortable, they make a ton of money to finance the record and their other indulgences, and everyone is happy. I suspect it was a group decision. This pack of fools could never have recorded an entire album in this amount of time. It isn't how they work. They know that and any thinking fan does too. It is no surprise Stevie isn't there. Why should she be? To knit? Play tambo while Linds and Chris jam? I am surprised anyone is surprised. This is the way they have always recorded. L and C did their Tango writing thing, and reconnected musically. An important process. They break, and then scoop up tour cash. Then they break again, come back, record Stevie's stuff, she lays down vocals on their songs, and Stevie and Lindsey fight over sequencing and verb tense. She leaves mad, Lindsey finishes mixing and other overdubs, then they angrily tour. Same show, different episode, folks! It's like some of you have never watched a soap opera. Or at least this particular soap opera.

Lindsey is a couple years older than my dad. I also think he was totally hot from 78-82- when he was in his 30's-now now. I think kind of motherly about him- I really want him to have whatever he wants, get to do what he wants- etc. to be happy. Artistically, I just want to observe whatever he puts out there without condition. I don't even like it when people shout out what they want him to sing- I just want him to do whatever's in his heart without distraction. I think the reason I love him is because he often does wear his heart on his sleeve, it's such an endearing thing.

Ha, General Hospital. I've been traipsing all over town to support the various showings of Kristina Wagner's Children of Internment.

a lot of people are referencing tango as an example of this working model in the past, but I think most people are surprised this method continues because Stevie wasn't happy at all that she was left out of the process, she's talked before about being furious she was barely on that record until she insisted being added to the mix.
With SYW...again I think they got put into a corner. The majority of the album was done by the time Stevie came in and then they were under the gun to finish all of her songs and have her add backing vocals on lindsey's most likely within a certain time frame. Not a lot of room for mistakes or figuring things out. Which is why most likely Stevie was not happy with her songs on SYW, but they were released anyways. It was too late for Stevie to put her foot down or re-do anything. If Stevie were wise I think she should of worked with Lindsey ahead of time much the way Chris is. Get Chris up the speed but also get the ball rolling with Stevie and at least get the beginnings of one or two of her songs rolling. In general, I just don't think bringing Stevie into a mac record in the 11th hour hasn't and doesn't really work as well as they think it does. It appears that it backfires more than anything. That's just my two cents though, heck I'm not in the studio with them. Only going on what we've heard and seen. |

Another reason Stevie should be there is to temper the schmaltz LB and CM come up with when left to their own devices. Mystified and You and I Part II are truly awful songs. I can only assume that they spent a lot of time in elevators together, looking for inspiration.
I listened to TITN all the way through this morning, to see if I'd had a change of heart about these two songs (and Family Man). Nope. I still think they are highly polished sonic turds. They've done amazing things on CM's songs when he has fleshed out her demos but as co-writers, Blech! |
