And it's because I like the group better than any of the solo artists that Stevie's loss just doesn't seem that insurmountable to me. It would when they were selling records, but not any more. Two songwriters is not the best option, but I'm happy with 2nd best.

It's like after The Dance. They said that a lot of reason for the delay is that they were waiting for Christine to change her mind. I missed Christine and wanted her back and I've been hoping (and actually predicting) that she would change her mind all along. But I didn't want the other 4 to do nothing in all of that time. I think waiting until 2003 for her to change her mind was too long. Of course, I also think not letting her just record and not tour was the wrong choice and that could have ended the gridlock, if they'd just not insisted on her touring.

But today, it seems like we have the reverse situation where Stevie wants to tour and not record and I say that's fine. Really, if she was happy it would be different. But she hasn't seemed particularly happy with FM to me since the tour ended. She didn't want to do the EP really. I was sure having Christine back would change her mind about being in the studio. I was wrong. It seems like her involvement in recording would be under duress and I think that is just going to turn out badly, from the inception. It's like John said of Christine back then, if she was going to be there, but sad like she was during The Dance, then it was good she was gone.

Same thing, if Stevie is going to record, but only grudgingly, then she should not be in the studio with them, but the result is going to be bad.

Michele
Well, I personally agree with you. I just want new music period. But I can certainly understand where others might want all 5 or nothing. If Stevie is in fact wanting to record with them and it's just a timing issue, then I'd want them to wait so long as it wasn't going to take 5 years or something. Otherwise I'm down for a Chris/Lindsey penned FM record.

yes, that's how i feel. if Stevie doesn't want to record, why try coaxing her? if she changes her mind and there are no more roadblocks, they can release a follow-up album. with 8 songs already recorded Lindsey might already have enough for 2 FM albums, and Christine seems to have as many too.

so release what you have now, i want to hear that new music we've been promised for years!!

I will say that if it weren't for all Stevie's networking, Fleetwood Mac would probably be almost forgotten about.

make no mistake, Stevie networks for herself, not for FM - and she's been extremely good at it lately. i have more and more respect for her savvy and next to no respect for the rest of them, especially the boys who she's been dragging through the mud and leaving in the dust again and again. and it's happening now again while providing them i'm sure some heart-wrenching excuse why she yet again cannot work with them and has to do solo stuff.

i understand they needed Stevie before when they were just a 4-some, but they need to grow some balls and go their own way, now when they have Christine back.

I agree, but I think that her visibility helps FM, too. I don't think she intends to promote the band in any way, but it does. Inevitably they are brought up, or an FM song is played or referenced, etc. Heck, Lindsey even got a shoutout on American Horror Story thanks to Stevie letting them use her music. If you look into Stevie, you end up finding out about Fleetwood Mac.

my beef is not with her, my beef is with the rest of the FM. i think they should let her do what she wants to, but if what she's doing does not fit with what they are doing, they should go their own way just like she is.
I understand your frustration but I couldn't resist

I wonder if Mick is over compensating for a lack of something...

You keep saying that you're gaining respect for her and losing it for the others. Why are you gaining respect for her screwing over her band mates? I don't find it to be admirable. If you think the band should kick her out and you lose respect because they don't, fine. But I don't it's commendable what Stevie is doing. It's not like she's quitting the band and she doesn't want to. She's using them. She's more commercially viable with the band too, you know.

yes and that's why she's not cutting them off, and keeps bsing that FM will always come first for her and that she will never break up that band.

while i agree with you that what she's doing is not moral or ethical, they are all in business together (even if it is personal too, for at least some of them). and she's shrewd at it, and yes she's using them but even W said "fool me once......."

if they allow her to fool them and use them over and over again, then yes, i have a problem with them, i don't really care about her.

what you said reminds me of the story i've heard on the radio today - how some rising rock star's roommate was stealing from this guy's bank account (which he allowed him to use, since they were roommates, and he was helping him out). the dj on the radio commented how the rising rock star "is a moron" and i thought what? can't anybody be nice and trust friends these days? the roommate stealing should be judged, he was the one committing the crime, not the one who was being nice and helping him out.

I'm sorry but really, Elle? We're now comparing the situation (of which we don't know much) to an actual crime committed by someone who's a user and can't be trusted? You're talking about her like some Machiavellian villain!

Why are you assuming FM are being 'fooled'? Why are you assuming they need her in the studio for the two weeks she's in Nashville anyway? Why are you assuming a lot of things? It's getting ridiculous, making ethical and moral judgments on Stevie because she happens to be in Nashville right now instead of LA recording with the band. We don't know the actual situation or what they've talked about or what stage they're up to of recording. We know what they let us know and that's IT unless you have some kind of insider knowledge or ability to read Lindsey's mind. Truly, the conclusions being leapt to here, and the assumptions being made by some people are just mind-boggling to me.

At the moment we seem to have these general three ways of thinking or a combination a lot of the time and it drives me mad:

1) WTF!? She’s been whining for yrs about wanting Chris back, she comes back, and Stevie buggers off down to Nashville for a solo project!? Damn her. Hope the rest of FM dump her selfish ass and do a record without her.

2) YAY!!! Lindsey always ruins her songs now anyway so I’m glad she’s back working with Dave - I like when working is a pleasant experience for her and she doesn’t need that darkness. YAY FOR MORE SOLO WORK.

3) I JUST WANT A FLEETWOOD MAC ALBUM WITH ALL FIVE. WHAT DID I DO WRONG TO DESERVE THIS F*CKERY!? :/

No, we don't have an exact precedent for this situation and I think a lot of the frustration comes from thinking this is going to destroy those initial hopes for a really good, united with-all-five-members band effort. I just think that perhaps people should relax a little bit. Wait and see before making judgments that Stevie's morally bankrupt, that she's using the band without a care, etc.

And no, Lindsey will NOT be putting out a Fleetwood Mac album without Stevie. It's just NOT going to happen, no matter how you hard you wish...
