It's not really "in the meantime" when she could be working with the band right now.

Hello all---

If Stevie is, indeed, recording songs for another solo album, then it looks suspiciously like she's riding on the coattails of the reunion tour to promote her own record. And that doesn't pass the smell test. If Mick is correct, and her goal is to complete the sessions in two weeks, then you factor in time to mix, master, and press CDs, her new record could easily be released by August. I'm not sure if she still has a solo contract or not, but if she goes the DIY route, it could be even sooner. And what better time to have a new record out than when the band is on a much-covered reunion tour? The thing is...we still have incomplete information. We only know those few comments Mick made and a few Tweets from Dave. My hope is that Mick is wrong or he's smokescreening, and maybe these are just songwriting/demo sessions for the FM record. If Mick is correct and the sessions are for a new Stevie record, well...that's really disappointing. With the wheels turning on FM projects, I'd have hoped that she would be more focused on the group. matt |

while the rest of the FM is stupid enough to still wait for her and not have any new songs to promote on this tour... as we are talking i have more and more respect for her outsmarting the rest of the band, and less and less respect for them allowing themselves to be fooled again and again.

I think we can reasonably assume this is not the case. A month ago Lindsey said they didn't know when and how she would record. It's unlikely that was all cleared up and her work complete in a month's time. Mick also seemed unsure of her plans and kinda seemed like he was hoping this Nashville thing wouldn't go longer than 2 weeks. They don't start rehearsing until mid-summer so if they don't need her for recording then he wouldn't care how long it would take her as long as she was ready in July.

I think it's pretty odd for this to have gone on so long when we all know that they're going to wait. They are in it for the maximum return and that means Stevie Nicks on an album of Fleetwood Mac material. Whether we feel they should release whatever they have now or wait, it doesn't matter.
I look forward to whatever they release whenever they release it. And as soon as I find a reasonably priced ticket I'll be counting down to my first show with all 5 Rumours era members onstage. |

And I'm not even saying she's wrong for doing that. But if she's not committed to making new FM music with the band, then I wish she'd just quit. But what I really want is new FM music NOW…not later. Overall, I prefer Lindsey's music over the other singers in the band, but his music sounds better in the more than capable hands of Mick, John, and Christine. I love OOTC and his other solo records, but I think any of them would have sounded better with the band backing him up [minus Stevie’s backing vocals, which often grate on me]. On the other hand, I don't own any solo work by the other singers. But that doesn't mean I don't like them. If I had to rank my all-time favorite FM tunes, both Stevie and Christine would occupy a couple of spots in the top 10["Landslide," "Hold Me," etc.]. And in some ways, Stevie and Christine are better writers than Lindsey. But again, their music sounds better with Lindsey, Mick, and John playing it. The band is truly better than the sum of its parts. So I think anything less than all five of them in the studio with a finished album is a huge let-down for fans. The tour isn't about the fans...it's about money, pure and simple. But if the tour provides them enough marketing buzz and financial security to eventually do an album, then I guess even the tour is worth it. Like it or not, this is probably the most likely scenario. And we have to accept the possibility that we may never get another album from the band. As a fan, I can't help wanting new music as soon as possible, though. As others have noted all too well, this band has a habit of taking forever to record. I figure the sooner they start working [all of them, that is], the better. So, yeah, as Elle pointed out, Stevie wins the chess game. I wish the rest of the band would be just as shrewd in its decision-making. matt |
