At least everyone's reacting calmly to the news... Really though, if we've learned anything over the last couple of years it is that they are almost incapable of releasing new music in a timely manner or properly promoting it. EP is still not a physical release and they couldn't get 4 songs out to the public before touring started despite them being recorded and ready to go. Did anyone think the album would actually come out this year...? It could, anything is possible after all, but that seems very unlikely given their history.

Stevie doing a solo album should be a relief for the anti-Dave Stewart contingent. If it's a country album I won't be too excited, but that isn't necessarily the case. Just glad she's getting back into that mode for whatever purposes. She wouldn't leave the band behind. Anymore that's her cash cow. She may be a little crazy, but she's not an idiot. Didn't Mick say something about it being done quickly, that "we're" hoping for that? Obviously they are counting on her being in the studio with FM so let's not jump to conclusions just yet.

I always felt Stevie was perfectly suited to sing country music. The first time I heard some of her demos back in 1981 I was ready for this.

I tend to agree with this but maybe she feels it is time to do something different. Age has a way of making one feel there is less time to waste.

Just because she's recording in Nashville, doesn't mean it is a Country album. Nashville has a diverse music scene.
Agreed. In the 1980's she recorded Whole Lotta Trouble in Memphis. I think One More Big time Rock And Roll Star might have been recorded there also, but my memory isn't too clear on that one.

The Other Side Of The Mirror took me completely by surprise. I have always been on top of news reports about Stevie's career. FM toured in Europe in 1988 and released a greatest hits album for Christmas, 1988.In May, 1989 it was a friend of mine, a casual Stevie fan who first heard Rooms on Fire on the radio and asked me if I had heard the new SN song. I said there was no new SN song. And she said there was. I figured she had just heard some SN song on the radio that was never a single. But she insisted. So I called the radio station and the DJ confirmed it. An hour later he played it for me and I have that memory of being in my first apartment looking out the window on a beautiful Spring evening at the full moon and hearing ROF for the first time.
I was completely in the dark about that album. What a wonderful surprise that was for me. I know most disagree but I love that album.

Also the song Twisted was recorded and released within a 3 week time period so it could appear on the movie soundtrack. So we never know what this group of people are capable of pulling out of a hat.

but we are also learning, with all the internet / info availability, bits of what is actually happening behind the scenes.

so, with EP, Lindsey told fans he was ready to release it in November and he was hoping it will be out in Jan/Feb, but "band politics" (or some such term) is getting in the way.

now with the FM album, Mick, Christine and Lindsey were pretty clear in the interviews they are all on board, there were pretty legitimate stories, instagram photos and reports they've been working on the album this spring with plans to get it out at the start of the tour. then it all stalled and SN was doing bunch of other stuff. why was she not recording with them before this solo stint? seems that "band politics" is again stepping in.

FM should just release what they have and not wait for band politics to be resolved. guys have been waiting since the end of 2009, and now they have Chris on board. they have an album, why wait?

if Stevie wants to record with them later, it seems - with their prolific phase - that Christine and Lindsey can each easily produce 4 for songs for that album with all 5 FM members. if SN wants to. but to wait for her now, when they are almost done and have been already waiting for her since 2009? why? (did the same thing happen after the Dance with TISL and SYW?? why did it take so long for FM to release SYW when they had most of Lindsey's songs in the can since like mid-90s, before the dance??)

you have an album, release it! SN can release her solo album at the same time, and everybody's happy!

Excuse me while I sound like a teenager, but LOL. I really didn't think this situation could have gotten any more confusing, but they have done it again! Like, WHAT! The more I think about the whole conversation with Mick, it makes me laugh. What in the world is going on with Stevie? The woman needs to speak!

You might be happy but you can't speak for every one. I'm not interested in a FM album that doesn't have any Stevie songs on it. FM contractually cannot release an album without Stevie having a song on there.

Common sense tells me that. FM cannot tour without Stevie because she is part of the group. FM cannot tour without Lindsey and now Christine for the same reason. The same with a new album. It cannot be released unless all 3 vocalists have songs on them.

ok. so you don't know it. not sure why you think contracts have anything to do with common sense.

They don't have a recording contract any more, so there would be no stipulation in a non-existing contract that would require Stevie's presence. Stevie's presence might help them shop a new record, but if they know beforehand that she's not going to be a part of it or they know that's a possibility, they can easily contract around that.

and that's completely fine. but you'll get SN solo album. how greedy can you be??

if i can get LB solo album plus FM album without him at the same time, i would take it, and be extremely happy about it! (and yeah i wouldn't care about that FM album without him, the same as you wouldn't care about FM without SN.)

This thread depresses me horribly. I want an album (or, ok, an EP) featuring all five of them.

Sigh.

I doubt that's true.

It's not. As Michelle pointed out, they are not under contract. They released EP independently and will probably shop this one around when they finish with it.

To be more clear, I meant contractually within the context of Fleetwood Mac. Not with a record company. FM is a band of 5 people. Putting an album out of only 4 of them does not consist of a band album. They have no choice but to wait for her. Now I don't know this as fact but I'd bet my bottom dollar it is the case.

yes, that's right. and they had that contract in place within FM for the last 20 or so years. that SYW and EP that you all think was released with just 4? figments or your imagination.
