There was a lot of bashing on here. 4Buck did NOT say that Stevie needed to loose weight for her health and Stevie is NOT to a weight size where she would need to loose weight for her health! I think that you are so wrong on that person just saying that she was not being disrespectful to Stevie. I was on this thread to inform that person that they're wrong and they must not know anything about this band b/c the pics I posted on here were NOT from The Dance, they were from some of the latest shows that Stevie has played. I know that this thread is far from dieing out and I think that it should just be delted. If there was any respect for this woman, people would realize that this thread got out of hand by bashing such a beautiful person. How do u know that Stevie would not come on here? You don't know that. Most celebs like to check out what their fans are talking about and if they're enjoying their shows. You can't tell me that you did not know that? Another thing, you must not know what it is like to be put down and made fun of, and called gross. If anything, you were probably one of those popular jocks or cheerleaders in HS b/c those are the people that had not respect what so ever!

I think some of their peeps read fan boards. Back when the tour first started I remember a thread about how lousy Lindsey dressed in the Fruit of the Looms. About a week later he started wearing the white shirt and not just his underwear. Did he get the word?

Oh my god! Okay, Kim. You're right...I don't know for sure if Stevie reads these boards. It was an assumption (among many on these boards).

As such, your assumptions are way off base...I was neither a cheerleader or a popular jock! Far from it! lol But how dare you make those bigoted generalizations and infer that I have no respect for people. I take great offense to that statement! Apparently you have no respect for any other view than your own.
(I'll let that pass)

Guess what?
I've been a devout fan of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac since 1977. I've grown up with the band and loved them through all of their different phases. Stevie's weight was never a condition of how much I respected and loved her. (Of course, I think we all just want her to be happy and healthy.)

Your over-the-top, impassioned retort (and others like it) serves perpetuate this thread. Fanning the fire so to speak.
To have what seems to be a over-protective, evangelical view of Stevie -- to the point where you want to ban the subjects you find distasteful....well that has nothing to do with weight, but it has everything to do with censorship. I am deeply offended by that prospect.

Yes, I understand the subject of weight is a sensitive one! And yes, I can now see that some people have taken the opportunity to post perceivably disrespective pot-shots. But any subject is susceptable to pot shots! What other subjects should be off limits? You may not always like what you read, but that is the price for FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

It seems very wrong to put dictates on what subjects are appropriate for discussion. I can understand deleting single
posts that are completely over-the-top. That is completely reasonable. But think about who really writes those kinds of posts--intended to anger, provoke and insult? Obviously they are not genuine, respectful fans. They do it for a reaction. And they succeed when we react. No one has to defend Stevie against these idiots. There's no sense in trying to reason with them. Ignore them.

Forgive me for this rambling discourse. Never meant it to be this lengthy. I work in the field of journalism and censorship is a sensitive subject for me. Ironically, I wish this thread would die out too. I just don't want to see a periodic, systematic deletion of threads because some Ledgies find certain subjects uncomfortable and disrespectful.

Maybe after reading this, most Ledgies will be too bored and tired to post, and the thread will die. lol

i can understand both sides of the arguments regarding this topic....however, i don't see anything wrong with discussing "Stevie's weight". It is a completely separate thing from everything else. Essentially, it's just a topic. If she weighed 110 pounds and we wanted to start a thread called "Stevie's weight" we could do as such and what would it matter? By the same token, we could start a thread called "Stevie's height", "Stevie's hair", "Stevie's brown eyes" etc etc etc.
It's blasphemous to think that this thread would be deleted or even banned in the future. To me, that IS censorship. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But the constant "what does her weight have to do with her music etc...?" it doesn't. you're absolutely right. neither does her shoes, clothes (black dress), hair, make up etc....it doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it. i didn't think people were getting harsh here. ok, maybe one in particular (you know who you are).

I think that the fact that we're all here spending time and energy on this message board shows that we all love and care for FM (and its various members) beyond the casual fan. That, in itself, says quite a bit.

I'm not trying to disparage your post - I think your comments are very intelligent. I agree that this thread should not be deleted because of its touchy subject matter, although I do see bashing going on. However, you've stumbled across a pet peeve of mine. The correct term is "moot" point.

Honestly, I could care less if people talked about Stevie's weight. Everyone who finds it distasteful is a hypocrite because *everyone* makes comments about other peoples body weight. I would even bet money that some of the folks who find talking about Stevie's weight is distasteful have made comments about Lara Flynn Boyle's or Calista Flockhart's body weight (or lack thereof). I'm sure everyone has made comments and just because it's about Stevie, it doesn't make it any different or wrong. I think talking about her weight and how it may have affected her career is very constructive because, after all, this board is here to DISCUSS the band and it's members in all aspects. However, when people make disgusting comments about her saying that she's fat and should be ashamed, that is out of line and has no place here because it's offensive and rude.

We have discussed her hair, her drug use, her lovers, her finally retired black funeral dress, her breasts and cup size, her house, her music, her career, EVERYTHING. But now her weight is taboo? I find that to be ridiculous and just because others look down on talking about it, it doesn't mean I will. As long as it isn't mean-spirited, I see nothing wrong with it. And the people who say mean things just show their true colors, as do the people who gladly participated in the weight discussion but then frowned upon it.

I understand that people adore Stevie and her music. I do, too. But I don't hold her up as if she's an angel and defend everyhing about her as some do; that, to me, is a ridiculous thing to do and a waste of time. Cripes, if someone says that they hate Stevie's reeboks, twelve obsessers will tear them apart and split the body parts equally. If you want to talk about Stevie's weight, DO IT.

Good god, gimme a break.

Listen, I only became harsh b/c when someone talks about somebody that I care about--it pisses me off. As a girl that has been picked on for her weight when I was young, that was something that was not easy to deal with. I just know that if someone really was a fan of Stevie's, what would it matter how much she weighed? I'm not saying that there can't be freedom of speech, i was just saying that i think it's rude to pick on someone in that way and u never know if Stevie would ever come on here. I know a lot of stars like to check out the boards and see what their fans are satisfied with and what not...This has just gotten too out of hand...

Kim--

I hope you don't think I was attacking you or singling you out; I was speaking to everyone that has read this thread. I agree with you that no one should have mean things said about them because of their weight. I just think that if people can talk about it in a civil way, more power to them. That's what a message board is for.

OK yeah, I can sort of agree with what trackaghost is saying but...I just saw Stevie this Sunday and she looked fine. I mean, she was not thin thin like in th 70's but I think that she is at a healthy weight for her age and I think she's just adorable. I mean, I really do think that she should keep her weight where it is now b/c it just seems to fit her at this point. The thing I *don't* get, is Y John's weight isn't brought up if weight is such an issue. I don't think that it should be brought up but i'm just saying that women are picked on continuously for this issue and it really pisses me off! What is with some of u men that think that women should be perfect? I'm getting so sick of it and it's getting out of hand.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! I am a "true" fan and you don't speak for me! There is some weird egotistical thing going on here with this thread...people are under the illusion that they can protect Stevie from being hurt. What you and others don't realize --- in your overly politically correct, simplistic, naive and myopic perspective.....

Don't assume that anything that is discussed here affects Stevie in any major way.

I would very much care if my posts were deleted "to make sure Stevie would not be hurt in anyway."

A discussion of weight doesn't always equate with insults and "bashing"

Just because someone takes an easy opportunity to post what some would consider a hurtful or mean-spirited message, doesn't make it right to delete the entire thread.

If you don't like what someone has posted...post a reply.

I sense that the issue of weight hits too close to home for some Ledgies in particular. The fact they've overreacted to the point where they justify censorship because they feel they can protect Stevie feelings....it seems like the issue has more to do with their own feelings and own issues regarding weight.

Get over your own issues on your own time, in your own place. Too bad if you are offended that this thread exists. Again I ask....what other subjects should be banned? Should we just call for a ban on anything that offends anyone? Should we reduce and moniter this board so narrowly that only positive comments of Stevie and the Band will be allowed? Positive propoganda only!

No getting around it...it's censorship. And that is more offensive to me than anything any idiot would post here. The more you keep calling for this thread to be banned, the more I and others will post objections to that ban.

This is the first time I've really been absolutely disappointed and disgusted with this board.
