Different things for different people. But it comes from relationship so in general it means you're a fan of or a supporter of a particular relationship in some capacity.
When we talk about shippers on this site, it's generally regarding Stevie and Lindsey's relationship.

It's nice that he's so open regarding writing about Stevie. Even I had not supposed all three of the new songs on "Extended Play" were about her.
I find the dynamics of their relationship fascinating and I love to discuss it, especially when interpreting lyrics. I also love it when they interact on stage. Their emotional interplay adds even more power to music that's already top notch, and I eat it up. Thus, I guess I am a "shipper" although I never really took to the term. I certainly think Show You How is about Stevie, the shadow singer, but I also thought it was about the woman who helped him move on past the spectre of Stevie. So, I thought It Takes Time was a new song, but that it shared a message with an older one and I wouldn't automatically say it was about Stevie. But I laughed when he was asked and he said, yeah I would think so and the writer said, 'Ok, well I was wondering, because you have had other relationships . . ' Sometimes, it is hard to lose sight of the fact that these people have had other relationships.Michele |

Count me in as someone who was VERY pleasantly surprised Lindsey copped to It Takes Time also being about Stevie. I'd thought that was the case but it's nice to have confirmation.

I'm pretty sure Stevie did not say she was knackered.

Being American, I actually had to google what that meant. I thought it had some relation to 'knickers' and was very confused.

Haha, I googled it too. But I knew it was not an American word.

We had a discussion about that at the time! I think the verdict was that some English words may have rubbed off on LB and SN, having spent so much time around three Brits.

I was going to bring up that Timespace article where she talks about her "English accent" that she sometimes has (and then goes on to unintentionally prove that she so does not have an English accent). Given her life on the rock scene, she's undoubtedly hung out with loads of Brits as well as the three in the band. And as a Canadian living in England, I'm very aware of how it rubs off on you. Knackered is just fantastic fun to say. I wonder if she's gone as far as dabbling in rhyming-slang. I know she doesn't appreciate input on her lyrics, but if she wrote a song where she described a tired person as "cream crackered" I think my head would never stop exploding. |

I always just assumed Christine was rather paraphrasing what Stevie had told her, not necessarily quoting verbatim. I'm inclined to think Stevie expressed herself in a more American fashion, saying something like "I"m beat" "I'm exhausted" "I'm wiped out" or whatever, which of course means the same thing as "I'm knackered" which is how Chris, being British, would understand what Stevie said. Just my tuppence.

It's always referred to support for specific relationships, as far as I've ever known. It's much more commonly used in book and television fandom. Fleetwood Mac is just so darn special like that.
![]() Go to fanfiction.net comments sections if you want to see it used all the time. I've actually never much cared about the L/S relationship dynamic. I've sort of taken it as just an interesting piece of trivia, and thought it was too bad that it's always made their collaborations a bit turbulent. The fact that people consider it a "mythology" is fascinating to me. It would be great if Christine sang more than Don't Stop, but it would undoubtedly be other songs that involved the touring members of the band. Songbird seems unlikely, however lovely it is. |
