Mick Fleetwood -- the founder and drummer of Fleetwood Mac -- just filed for legal separation from his third wife.

Mick -- whose sexual escapades with Stevie Nicks are legendary -- married Lynn Susan Frankel Fleetwood in 1995. They have twin daughters, who are now 11.

Mick cites irreconcilable differences and wants joint legal custody of the kids but wants Lynn to have primary physical custody.

And get this ... the guy who presumably is richer than you could ever dream of ... wants spousal support!

Now here's a big deal ... Mick claims all of his premarital musical royalties and memorabilia are his property -- which makes sense.

He has NOT filed for divorce -- at least not yet, but it looks like he's never going back again.

Interesting. They only say now that he wants to keep his premarital royalties and separate income. They say, "now get this" but then add that that request makes sense. The spousal report item must have been erroneous. But they don't post a retraction. They just change it.

Yeah, but I bet that could get tricky. I could see him requesting to pay her off a set sum in installments, but if he committed to spousal support the amount of the payments could be modified as his income increases. I would think he would want to limit what she could get to whatever his income was when they split up in 2011 (or whenever it was), rather than leaving himself open for future claims.

I'm not familiar with California law, but since it's a community property state, don't they look at the point at which the legal separation was filed? He may have timed this filing so that she can't make a claim for anything he makes on this tour...

I thought Mick was a resident of Hawaii? I have no information regarding their divorce laws.

He is...I don't know why I was assuming he still had ties to California.

My one regret now that I'm almost done with law school is that I didn't take Family Law. But I do believe that his filing for separation now sort might prevent her from making a claim to anything he earns from that point on (ie, this tour).

My friend is in the same boat as Mick is. After 6 plus years his Ex still has money going to her as we speak.He's got to work extra jobs just to pay her.She just spend it like it was growing on trees.

I think thats BS....

As I always say why bother with marriage if you are in the entertainment biz.

They do when you are just dividing the property. We first learned of Mick's separation when he did the Playboy interview, so I assume anything he started earning after about that time would be his. They'd just divide what he earned and acquired during their marriage.

But the problem with ongoing child support and alimony is that if there is a change in need or a change in ability to pay, then you can go back in and try to get more money (or Mick could go back in and try to pay less, if he fell on hard times).

It's best for Mick to have the property divided, decide who gets what house and property and pay her now, but do NOT let her have a claim for alimony in the future, because those future payments can be open to adjustment.

Court records show Mick Fleetwood has filed for legal separation from his wife of more than 17 years in Los Angeles.

Fleetwood and Lynn Frankel Fleetwood have been married since July 1995 and have twin 11-year-old daughters together. He is seeking joint legal custody but wants his estranged wife to have physical custody of their children.

The Fleetwood Mac drummer filed for separation on March 22, but the documents were not publicly available until Tuesday. He does not list a date for the couple's separation but wants a judge to award him sole control of music royalties and other earnings from before their marriage.

The 65-year-old Grammy Award winner cites irreconcilable differences for the separation, but no other details are included in the filing.
