It's interesting so many people feel this way now. Ledge members pleaded SO long & hard for Sara to come back. Personally, I think 21st century Sara utterly trumps 70s/80s Sara. To me, the modern Sara fixes what made the original translate to stage so poorly. They fixed the pacing/progression of the song. To me, the older versions were just so slow & wandering. Utterly boring. But I think the modern versions are pretty fantastic. Plus, oddly enough, Stevie's current voice seems to work better for the song onstage, too.

I guess I am alone in totally despising Angel, too. Now that is a boring, wandering, anticlimactic song. I'd much rather hear Sisters Of The Moon with Beautiful Child & Sara. I wish I could add Storms to that list, but Stevie just couldn't make it work live, IMO. Stevie's voice just wasn't up for the task.

I like "Angel", but as a concert song, it does not have a climax musically, only vocally, and I don't think Stevie can muster the throaty screaming peak of "Go track a ghost through the fog, BABY!!!" Like she did in 1980 through 83'.
Whereas "Sisters Of The Moon" has that musical climax even if Stevie does not speak in tongues. I see SOTM evolving to stage in the 21st century much like GDW has. Undoubtably it will be more subdued but meanincing and atmospheric.

Mid-tempo songs like Sara, Gypsy, Dreams, Over My Head, and others are hard songs to do, esp when trying the set the right mood and pacing of the song - not too fast yet not so slow. I do sound at my church and we have problems with mid-tempo songs very often.

They outta do like a trilogy Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, and then Sisters of the Moon or maybe Gold Dust Woman fading into Sisters of the Moon.

Agree completely. I can remember before the 2004 tour started how any time setlist discussions could come up, inevitably, people would be begging for Sara to be unearthed. Now suddenly, it seems to have fallen out of favor for whatever reason. I actually enjoy the 04-09 Sara quite a bit and am surprised at the hostility Sara generates these days.

Oh we wanted it, alright. Then most of us realized it kind of sucked live. They just never got it quite right - I don't know if it was the tempo, or because the song (albeit beautiful) tends to drag on or what. But it wasn't great.

Gypsy is another one I don't care to see/hear live ever again. Bland.

To me, Sara works great live now. Especially after she did on Soundstage. Oh my god, it was great to hear that live in Chicago at the warm up concert.

I agree with you about Gypsy but Sara sounded wonderful on the Tusk Tour with just Christine, John, Mick and Lindsey providing the instrumentation.

I would love for them to do Peacekeeper but I don't see that happening.

Wow, STRONGLY disagree with that. stevies love performance of storms are in my opinion one or her greatest vocal achievements ever and for sure of this century. That's how I felt when I saw it I've and it's been confirmed in every version I've seen on YouTube. If anything I still loved it live but Stevie's voice couldn't tackle beautiful child for me.

of all the ballads Stevie's performed on her tours of the 2000 storms was by far my favorite. This is no I'd rate the rest:

1. Storms
2. Love Is
3. Beautiful child
4. HAEWAFY
5. Beauty and the Beast

She was amazing on Beautiful Child imho and Storms was a big bore.

IMHO Storms was really hard to capture live and ended up a sort of loud monotone braying rather than the half-whispered beauty of the original. Sara is also a drone when done live, it needs a dramatic build and atmosphere which seemingly cannot be achieved live - it ends up sounding like chanting over a chugging, stuttering instrumental. Nowhere near the masterpiece of the recording. For FM, Beautiful Child is perfect live, and solo, either BATB or HAEWAFY still work marvellously.
These ballads are the reason I love Stevie.

I have low expectations for "Sisters," in that I'm not expecting a replay of a 1982 performance. But I think that she'll still do a good job and try to keep it true to her original demo. I hope she tries to sustain those long notes after the first two verses (i.e. "to me..." "of the moon..."), instead of "to me, yeah!" and "of the moon, yeah!"
