And actually, wasn't "Warm Ways" (inexplicably) the first single released from the album? So I guess they thought that was the obvious choice, only it didn't really go anywhere.
I too am hearing this as being about OMH. By the time of Rhiannon, they would have already had a hit.

I always thought this, too was the first single. Apparently it was only the "first" single in the UK. But I have always thought of it being the lead single that didn't go anywhere.
