And actually, wasn't "Warm Ways" (inexplicably) the first single released from the album? So I guess they thought that was the obvious choice, only it didn't really go anywhere.
I too am hearing this as being about OMH. By the time of Rhiannon, they would have already had a hit.

I always thought this, too was the first single. Apparently it was only the "first" single in the UK. But I have always thought of it being the lead single that didn't go anywhere.

Great point Mick said. Great single can bore people two months later. Who knew. If this is about Rhiannon. 38 years later and people still love hearing this song on the radio. I remember seeing a good jukebox. Rhiannon was number one most played. You just never know.

So true, and insightful on Micks part. I can't count the times this past year I have walked into anywhere and heard "Weee..are Never, Ever, Ever...."

I assumed they meant Rhiannon and that's why the started talking to Stevie first. OMH sounds like a single not a song that would become a single.

This Rolling Stone excerpt from 1977 talks about that time period:

"The newest members of the band were happy with the album, but Stevie Nicks went through an anxious period of self-doubt. She can quote entire passages from a review in Rolling Stone that, she says, almost caused her to quit. "They said my singing was 'callow' and that really hurt my feelings." She began to think that maybe she wasn't that good, and that she had been asked into the band only because she was with Buckingham. "Time after time I would read: '...the raucous voice of Stevie Nicks and the golden-throated voice of Christine McVie, who's the only saving grace of the band.' When it comes to competition, I won't compete for a man and I won't compete for a place on that stage either. If I'm not wanted, I'll get out. I was bummed."

But the bum didn't last long: Fleetwood Mac immediately became a gold album and Christine's ethereal song, "Over my head," broke big in both pop and easy-listening radio. Nicks, who'd done harmonies on the track, felt better. And when "Rhiannon" found an even bigger audience, with its mainstream rock and roll getting both AM and FM airplay, she forgot all about quitting."

Not sure why but I have not been able to get this video to play, it's a black screen and the spinner spins, never loads. I tried to no avail yesterday. It would be great if it could be posted on youtube, maybe then it might work.

Interesting how quiet Stevie was in these early interviews compared to later. She barely talks and Mick just rambles on. it'd be funny to put this video side by side with the recent Stevie-Mick-Lindsey videos where Stevie never lets Mick get a word in edgewise
