New Fleetwood Mac tribute album to be released September 14

"Rhiannon" had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed it that much. If "indie" means anything these days, it means melding incommensurate elements. In this case (Best Coast), it's the humor at the root of all these elements you would never expect to hear: Fleetwood Mac gets criticized for being a I-IV-V pop-song band that's too repetitive, so this Best Coast band turns the song into a I-IV-V pop song with a ridiculously repetitive piano (in a major key, no less, unlike the original). It's kind of stupid-brilliant. It's quite ironic and quite funny. That's the true deconstruction—you pull the suppositions apart until you uncover the irresolvable bias beneath (the musical aporia). What could be less mystical than this Rhiannon?

It also made me think of the game most musicians play at some point (usually when they're bored out of their everloving minds)—they turn a minor song major, or a major song minor. It's a garage band's parlour game.

Storms is lovely. Not as good as the original (hardly a surprise) but I'm a Bonnie 'Prince' Billy fan and think this is good. It perhaps gets a bit busy at times but I think it portrays some of the emotion. Of course, portraying the kind of emotion in Storms is something BPB has spent his career doing.

^^^ I don't love it, I'm just not a big fan of Marianne Faithfull's voice, but I do like it. The first half is actually not that differrent from the original, the second half is quite different but still has the same "feel" as the original, imo.

Really love "Storms" and "Angel," especially "Angel." I think the performers in both cases find genuine emotion in the songs. And of course that's a huge part of what makes Stevie's songs so special.
