Wonder why that format died?

I also remember that some of records would skip, but I could sometimes prevent that if I put a nickel on the arm of the needle....the extra weight seemed to stop some of the skipping.

The thing that drove me batty about LPs was the paranoia over wearing out the grooves and/or wearing out the diamond stylus of the tonearm cartridge. I would force myself to ration my playing of certain albums because of this. And OMG, I can't listen to some songs these days without thinking back on where I would always hear a loud pop, or where I would have to nudge the needle so that it wouldn't get hung up playing the same groove over and over. Ugh. As such, I truly do not understand this newfound (hipster) interest in collecting vinyl LPs and such. There is a reason why everything went digital!
