There's really nothing quite like seeing a show at Red Rocks.
The Ledgies I met were all so nice and gracious. I didn't get as much time with everyone as I would have liked, but it was a memorable night and it was wonderful to meet everyone that I did.
I was sitting in row 3, and it's the closest I've ever been to the stage at a Stevie show. I was hoping to get some good pictures, but many of them that I took didn't turn out as great as I thought they were while I was taking them.
Stevie wore the usual black outfit, but switched it up to white for Edge and Love Is. Annabel Lee was far better live than I expected. I enjoyed Sorcerer, which I usually don't. Moonlight seemed a little crooked and off balance. I couldn't put my finger on it until Curtis said that it needed the strings that are in the album version, and it all made sense. I'm sort of surprised that Stevie didn't get a violin player for the tour....and I won't be surprised if she drops the song later on down the line. My partner likes to make fun of Stevie and my love for her music. He means it in a fun way, and sometimes he actually makes me laugh - he wanted to know if since Moonlight was her Twilight song, was Sorcerer her Harry Potter song?
Gold Dust Woman was great but it always is. The crowd really came alive at this point! Ghosts Are Gone was next and sounded great! Stevie talked a bit about Walter Reed and her experiences there that were the inspiration for Soldier's Angel. At some point near here, a friend of mine working the event brought me a copy of the setlist, which I posted below.
I noticed that as the crowd's energy grew, so did Stevie's. She really lit up the second half of the show, and her performances of Secret Love - and Leather And Lace - were some of the best of the night for me. I was surprised how good Leather And Lace sounded, and it was sweet of Stevie to sing it with her vocal coach. I hope they keep this in the set for the whole tour - Stevie's vocal was so good and the song fits her voice very well.
Then came The Edge. I would have loved to do the Edge Walk, but it wasn't in the stars. I get a little bothered about it at every Stevie show, but this time was ok. She was SO CLOSE that it felt like I was there. All in all, Stevie was on fire during this song. When she moved down to the audience for the Edge Walk, the swooning of the fans and the drums and guitar and the energy of those massive Red Rocks all came together and the wind became crazy - like seriously, it was intense! I can't even explain the energy of the audience, and the wind, and the way they fed off of each other and the way Stevie's hair was blowing. You had to be there - I tried to capture it in a few photos posted below.
Love Is closed the show and was better than I would ever have imagined it to be. The audience was silent, hanging on Stevie's every word, all the way to the very last word.
I had a great night at Red Rocks and being there with other Ledgies just made it better. Thank you!
