Anybody else in love with this song? I know we don't talk about it at all around these parts, but I think it's beautiful and simplistic. To some, it may be elevator music, but to me, it's one of Stevie's best duets, if you consider it a duet with a saxophone.

I agree with you 100%. It's a great "lost" Stevie track with a beautiful vocal. I always loved it : )

I remember discovering this track around the same time I discovered her duet "Secret" w/ Robin Zander (Cheap Trick lead singer). I think they were released around the same time (?). although I discovered them both at least a year or two after their release(s) as this was the dreaded black-hole time for Stevie's career. It seemed she was considered so passe and so irrelevant to the then-current music scene that you really had to be strong and courageous if you were to voice your fandom to the unindoctrinated. Fandom then was really spent mostly at home alone, free from the potential of public shamings by strangers. In this time before the internet it really seemed to me that she was done and had just quickly faded away into obscurity. If I did happen to hear about a song like Secret or Count the Ways prior to release I would hope beyond hope that the song would be so good or so popular that it would turn the tide in pubkic opinion about Stevie. However all the songs from that era seemed to get lost in the black hole and never got played anywhere that I ever heard of. They have a cheesey edge but I think are very nice changes from the de riguer Steve that really doesn't fluctuate much in style or presentation. Jusrt my $. 02!

My friend and I met Dave @ Tower records one time, and we told him how much we loved that song. I don't want to say he started gushing about Stevie, but darned if he didn't start in about how that came to be, how amazing it was for him to work with her. Then proceeds to tell us during the recording session at some point it was his birthday and Stevie brought him a cake, and had Happy Birthday sung to him. Well, ok, maybe gushing was the word. lol. He was a real nice guy, and had nothing but praise for the collaboration.

When this album was released I was excited to have anything new by Stevie. However, I was bored by it except for the parts where she sings. Still, I prefer it to the stuff with Kenny G.

I, for one, would be very interested in hearing as much of that story as you felt like telling, if you didn't mind elaborating on that! Thanks, Ricoh V. |

I've always liked this song... but although smooth jazz is not a genre I listen to much, I don't mind it really (I grew up hearing it quite a bit). Although not the most original melody, it is a pretty song. I wish she had been given a verse to sing (perhaps the second one) with the saxophone as a backing instrument for that verse (playing counter-melody)... more a duet style than just a sung chorus.
For anyone interested, here is an edit I made that basically cuts out the saxophone verse sections and focuses on Stevie's vocal contributions... I tried to make it sound as seamless as possible, while I realize it's not nearly as interesting of a song as it is in its entirety. "Let Me Count The Ways" - vocal edit http://www.mediafire.com/?17bzxa7d9t0hixc I do recommend finding the album so you can hear the whole song if you haven't or have never heard it. ![]() Last edited by jeffd8382; 07-20-2011 at 04:04 PM..
