I think what SYW suffers most from is probably the most obvious... no Christine McVie.
I was a big cheerleader about "Buckingham Nicks II", but I have to say the SYW really needs some piano on it. There's just too much synthesized keyboard sounds and odd vocal effects. I dunno.... The overall album sound feels very chilly, with the only exception (off the top of my head) being "Say You Will", which is very warm. Even my favorite song ("Goodbye Baby") would have been so much better supported by grand piano than the synth sound. Don't get me wrong, I like the album very much- but with 18 songs you think there could have been a little less "weirdness" and one or two songs with some slow, beautiful piano. Eh, I'm stilll listening to it anyways and trying to get into its "groove". Maybe I just need more time. |
