I always thought this quote was interesting:
“Ask any grammar teacher of the era how an entire generation of American students unknowingly took to spelling the word rumor with two u’s for years thereafter.” (Liner notes on the cultural impact of the album - ‘Rumours’ double CD re-release, 2004) Asking American Ledgies here - is this still true? I went to school in Canada where we follow British spelling, so I was always use to ‘Rumours’ with the second ‘u’. Writing it as ‘rumors’ in class will get you points off! Same for ‘color’, instead of ‘colour’. Anyways, I’m curious about how you guys south of the border spell the word. Because of your fandom for FM, do you find yourself intentionally or unintentionally spelling ‘rumours’ the Brit way? I mean using the word in general, not in any context to the album. |
