Facebook Etiquette- Introducing Yourself To Someone

Just had a quick question to get an opinion from fellow Ledgies.

There is this girl I've seen around campus a couple of times this semester. Her page randomly was recommended on my FB (you know how FB recommends people), because we have 42 friends in common. I was wondering if it would be polite or not to introduce myself to her via FB- a lot of our mutual friends are choir people I went to high school with and stuff, so would it really be that terribly random? What do you all think?
