Thrown Down Like A Barricade??

[Mad4stevie]

I have always been a believer in the idea that the only stupid questions are the ones that are not asked, so at the risk of sounding like an idiot . . .

I have been listening to the various incantations of this song since I got the TISL demos, and I still have yet to figure out what the heck Stevie means by "thrown down like a barricade". I get the gist of everything else in the song, but what is the analogy here involving a barricade?

I realize that some of you all have been around the Ledge for awhile and probably analyzed this song to death already, but that was before my time here. So if anyone can make sense of this for me, I can stop driving myself crazy. Thanks!
