BUTTER COOKIE (not COKIE).
Apparently, it was hashed around (no pun intended, really) up there in Sausalito in 1976, but the whole thing (or what we have of it) reminds me for some reason of late '60s rock bands in the Midlands region of England, & Christine's singing is more Sandy Dennyish than ever. (And why didn't the David Lees crew give us the whole thing on the reissue? )And yet, there's something kind of California hippie about the sound of it, too. Such a short clip, but it creates such a vivid mood, & reminds you of so many things -- it recalls regions & eras & an unpinpointable zeitgeist. I'm sorry that it didn't make the cut on the album, but one wonders what it would have sounded like ultimately if the band & the engineers had spent a year dabbling with it. This way, it has a freshness & a naivete, as if it were cobbled together during a long, languid Marin County afternoon, the waning sunlight slicing at an angle across the lapping waters of the bay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aml2y...eature=related
