It's written in an Indian language called 'Tamil', spoken by millions in the south of India as well as in Sri Lanka. It is a Hindu mantra, pronounced simply as:
"Aum, Nama Shivaya" It's a devotion, to the name of God. In this case, it is God in the form of Shiva, one of the three deities that forms the Hindu trinity (Brahma is the creator, Vishnu the sustainer, and Shiva the destroyer- but destruction in a good and natural sense, as only with destruction can new Creation occur). Well, here the Wiki on it, if anyone interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Namah_Shivaya Oh, and here is a little lesson for you kids out there: when you meet someone you fall in love and they are Hindu and you think it's gonna last forever, don't commerate it with a tattoo. Cause when you break up, you've got a souvenier for eternity. |
