Lost Stevie Item on Ebay and wondering Why? Help?

I was bidding on 2 stevie tour books on ebay and I had 1 min. and 30 seconds on one and 3 minutes on another one and I was watching them like a hawk, and then suddenly they were sold to someone???What does that mean? That's not fair. They only out bid me by 50 cents and when I saw that I went back immediately and tried to bid an extra 1.00 on it it was sold!
What kind of crap is this with ebay? Does this sh#t happen all the time on their site? It was my first time doing this, but still I was watching like crazy on those damn books and to make it worse it was the same person who won them both at the same time! WTF!? Someone please help me understand why this happens. I have wanted these books for so long now my heart is broken.
