Just checking out some online reviews of today's Led Zeppelin reunion show in London and thought of the accounts I've read that the band modeled "Black Dog" on the structure of "Oh Well Part 1" (with the alternating guitar and vocal passages). This seems to be pretty well documented from what I can tell.
It also seems to me that the later part of "Black Dog" is not unlike the end of "The Green Manalishi", with a rather expressive guitar solo played against a more simple, repeating musical phrase. Not sure that I've ever heard of "Manalishi" being a possible influence, though. Anyone else hear a similarity there or am I just imagining things? |
