I do think that's why I prefer Santana's version, because I heard it first. Same thing with Mission Bell. I probably didn't hear FM's until the
1980s. I began to like the White Album line up in 1979. I bought Tusk when it was new and I went back and got Rumours and The White album. But I was a kid and didn't have a lot of disposable income. Probably it wasn't until 1982 after Mirage came out and I was in college surrounded by all the used record stores that I started to collect older FM stuff. Anyway, what you hear first does create the greater impression. Also, if you happen to already like an artist and they cover a song, that helps. I really don't have the greatest musical taste. First time I heard Hey Joe Cher sang it and that's the only version I can get into. Don't tell me about Hendrix. That's springing to a conclusion. You can be a Peter Green fan and still think someone else did one single song out of his vast repertoire better than he did. Michele Last edited by michelej1; 11-03-2007 at 11:55 AM.. |
