I watched this movie after I found a copy of it at the library on Monday. I missed it in the theater but figured I might as well watch it anyway. I was happy to see that it was completely unsensationalized and pretty tasteful. It felt realistic and didn't seem to be going after the big bucks. If Jerry Bruckheimer or Michael Bay had gotten their hands on it it would have been a noisy, exploitive action movie, but it wasn't.
My Mom and I were pretty much drained and numb by the time it was over. The last 10 minutes were probably the most depressing and intense I've ever seen in a movie. Mom just sat during the credits and mumbled "intense" once. I was shuddering and felt like I'd been hit with a hammer. The pre-release controversy was completely overblown and the comments about the movie being jignostic propaganda were complete bull****. I don't think any of those people even saw the movie. I myself probably won't feel any need to watch it again for another five years. |
