Going His Own Way

By Rick Koster

Lindsey Buckingham

Most children — whatever else they learn — will leave high school secure in the knowledge that Lindsey Buckingham thinks side two of “The Beach Boys Today!” is one of the great artistic statements of history.
This explains Buckingham's own estimable accomplishments, both in Fleetwood Mac and on his own. Granted, in the post-Mac years, he hasn't been in any hurry to add to his legacy, releasing a new CD only every 12 years or so.

But when he does, as with the excellent and brand-new “Under the Skin,” it's worth taking note — particularly since Buckingham will perform Saturday in the Foxwoods Resort Casino's Fox Theatre. A lot of the time, in Mac Land, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVey got too much of the attention, but Buckingham is a terrific guitarist and a smart, inventive pop songwriter.

There really isn't a “filler” tune on the new CD; it's continually clever, fresh and melodic. It seems obvious now, but maybe solo was the way to see him all along.

Lindsey Buckingham performs at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Fox Theatre at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Tickets are $55 and $65. Call 1-800-200-2882 or access www.foxwoods.com.
