Any thoughts on the Anniversary of 9/11?

I agree. I said this at the time (perhaps here) and got slammed as an uncaring jerk. I mean I feel horrible for anyone trapped in those buildings and I think there but for the Grace of God go I. But, when their heirs all started getting millions in hush money from the govt. and other sources, I was outraged. With no disrespect to any NYC firefoighter or police officer, how is dying there any different than dying in a burning building in a slum while trying to save a child. Both acts are equally as heroic and have all of my awe and appreciation. Yet, the 9/11 victim gets compensated like 10 to 20 times more just because it was 9/11. Same for the soldiers in the current wars. Why aren't they compensated like the widow of some poor soul who died when the buildings fell.

In the end, people were paid as hush money and not to sue. To me, that casts a somewhat bad light on the whole thing. Of course, I am a rank hypocrite because I would have taken the money had I sustained such a loss.
