Ledgie Prayers Needed...

[foxyluva]

It has been quite a week already, first my precious cat has been diagnosed with a binine tumour on her putuitary glands - treatment is available because we caught it quickly - Thank God.

Then we got the news that my second cousin had been murdered in the back of a police van. His parents got him arrested for stealing his mothers car - a tough love sort of idea - and the police put him in a police wagon after the trial with hardened criminals, and when they got back to the station - the found he had been strangled - and his parents had to turn off his life support yesterday morning. I need some Ledgie prayers to go out to his parents - who must feel guilty for getting him arrested in the first place. My heart breaks for them

Here is the story:

The Government wants the Corrections Department to carry out a review of its policies in the wake of the death of Liam Ashley.

The 17-year-old was fatally attacked while being transported in a prison van last Thursday night.

The prime minister says she is sickened and horrified by Liam Ashley's death.

Helen Clark says 17 is far too young to be in the back of a prison van with hardened criminals. She told Newstalk ZB's Paul Holmes that she wants Corrections to review their systems and procedures immediately.

She says she is not going to be satisfied until she gets some decent answers from the department.

Miss Clark says the Corrections department's policy is to separate juvenile offenders from adults; however she is getting the impression that mixing juvenile and adult offenders in transit may occur, which she says is a cause of concern.
