I was entertained, but a bit disappointed. I found this Superman to be a lot less attractive and endearing than Christopher Reeve's. There was something very plastic-y and "too perfect" about him (done deliberately? maybe). He didn't convey the inner vulnerability that makes Superman human, even though he's almost invulnerable physically. In fact, I actually found Lois Lane's fiance more attractive than Superman.
There were some plot problems that made me cringe, like Lois taking her young son with her to where she expected criminals were hiding, even though she was dressed in formal wear about to go to an awards dinner. "First we question the bad guys, honey, then we go to the Pulitizer place." PUH-LEEZE. I do agree that Kevin Spacey did a terrific job as Lex. Showing Superman stop a bullet with his eye was pretty cool too. I was like "DANG!" lol The love triangle was unexpectedly complicated - his rival was actually a NICE GUY! It's also great that they were able to use the original Williams score. So I say it's worth a watch, even if it's not stellar. |
