Default World Naked Bike Day ends in arrests

http://denver.yourhub.com/Story.aspx?contentid=96974

Ah, to be young, fit and naked in Boulder.

Boulder police got a first-hand view of a "World Naked Bike Day" on June 17, although most Web chatter called for the event to occur on June 12, and most of the activity seemed to center around Liquor Mart, 1750 15th Street, according to police reports.

Police found themselves on a search for a six-foot, four-inch blond white male at 6:05 p.m., reportedly wearing nothing but a multi-colored g-string, officers said. One officer had confronted a group of both naked and nearly-naked men and women at the liquor store parking lot, reports said.

As the officer was talking to one very naked man, the others began to back away and mount their bikes, the officer said. One suspect -- later identified as Fredrick Drenning, 34, of Boulder - was told specifically to stop, the officer said, but threw his bike at the officer and fled the scene on foot.

Drenning was found by another officer about three minutes later attempting to hide behind some bushes near the intersection of 16 th and Walnut streets, according to reports. Drenning was arrested for investigation of obstructing a police officer and held at Boulder County Jail, reports state, although he claimed to have done nothing wrong and was merely participating in a global celebration.

With the naked bikers apparently dispersed, an officer working off-duty at Liquor Mart saw Brennan Sheets, 18, of Denver, standing in full view of patrons coming in the main entrance wearing nothing but a hat, socks and rollerblades at 6:13 p.m. Sheets was initially arrested for investigation of indecent exposure, but an additional charge of criminal impersonation was added after Sheets attempted to give police a different first name and date of birth, reports state.

Sheets was also booked and held at Boulder County Jail. Both suspects were apparently given orange jail jumpsuits in time for their mug shots.
