Almost ten years since The Dance.....

Now when I watch SS from The Dance I don't get the same goosebumps at the "Never get away, never get away, NEEEEEEEEVER GET AWAAAY" part because I know the "chemistry" going on between them was just for show; it was put on. Back then I thought there was way more poignancy and sentimentalism between Stevie and Lindsey in that SS performance and now knowing what I know about "the act" they put on for the fans, it looks like it was mostly an act .

You know, I have to disagree with you there. Sure, a lot of what goes on during a stage show is made to play to the audience, and Stevie even said about Say You Will that she wrote songs about Lindsay and the band because that's why people like Fleetwood Mac so much, the drama between them all (okay, not in those words, but that's what I got out of it). But I'll tell you, having been a singer in a band before, when you write about something that is
very emotional to you, you can't help but feel that emotion every time you sing that. I have songs about a person whom I was very much in love with. Things didn't work out and over the years I've been able to bring closure to the episode of my life. I remember our friendship fondly now, but don't pine for him like I used to, yet, whenever I sing one of those songs, just for the few minutes I'm lost in it, I'm that same emotionally broken 24 year old who's desperately in love with someone I will never have, and it tears me apart. It's an amazing experience, almost like time travel. Once it's over I can take a deep breath and come back to the present, but no matter how many times I sing one of those songs, I'm totally there. So maybe I'm wrong, but it's not hard for me to believe that when Stevie sings Silver Springs, and she looks at Lindsay on the stage, that there a part of her that's transported back to the days when she wrote the song, the first times she sang it, when it was left off of Rumors and the fact that he's still there, all these years later and when she sings "you'll never get away" and he's still there, there's feelings are there.
