Stevie's collaborators and admirers have often praised her talent for harmonizing. Jimmy Iovine called her "every bit as good as the Everly Brothers"; Tom Petty said she was an "amazing" harmony singer. What do you think are Stevie's best or most interesting harmonies -- either with herself or with others? (And regardless of what you think of the song.)
My picks: 1. Insider (one of her most chilling performances, especially the live version) 2. I'm So Afraid ("black as night...") 3. Second Hand News ("oh wouldn't you just let me go down and do my stuff...") 4. Over My Head (those echoing "over my head" lines) 5. Say You Love Me 6. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (the whole chorus, we know now, she's singing harmony to Tom's lead) 7. Say Goodbye (so soft and beautiful) 8. Whenever I Call You Friend 9. Magnet & Steel 10. Sorcerer (demo with Lindsey) I guess I think her best harmonies are when she's singing with someone else, though she has some beautiful self-harmonizing too. I guess it's just less noticeable. ![]()
