Do not try to pretend that when you see a particularly harsh critique of "When I See You Again" your emotions are not stirred. Random opinions from random, unknown posters shouldn't bother anyone; when you see an established member of the board making a statement like that several times in a row then at least I would take it seriously.
Your entire paragraph there could knock over your "everyone in this world can relate to Stevie's songs, if they really try" theory.

And it's the same thing with "Save Me A Place." I'm not going to just vote it off, or say I dislike it, without offering an explanation as to why.

Other than the harmonies, there's absolutely nothing of any interest going on in the song. It's about as interesting as watching molasses roll up a hill in June.

I'm not trying to be spiteful or purposefully bitchy... it just sucks.

So quite honestly, I do not think this is anything different from what Mylittledemon stated in that thread I linked to. Only in a couple of places do I see a thing like "in my opinion", or something like that. Otherwise you're stating the thing like you were stating a fact, a thing ChiliD criticizes Mylittledemon of in the that particular thread.
Traditionally on this board certain members have reminded other members of the fact that saying something sucks is quite different from saying one doesn't care for the song/album/whatever (see Wetcamelfood's post, the last one in the linked thread). I understand this personally. While it's easy to say that everyone on this board speaks for themselves, and that everything people type here should be taken with a grain of salt, it's not as simple in reality. Things like "IMO" are usually put there to cool things down.
In fact, I have even seen you criticizing certain people (you know who I'm referring to) for typing down similar things you just did in a thread, about a particular song. Which is why it was surprising to see statements like this from you several times in a row.
I'm not even that moved by "Save Me A Place". I'm just here to speak for the people who obviously are tremendously moved by it. I believe they weren't that bothered by your opinion on it. I also believe they can speak for themselves, Dissention and Kate have shown to me that they sure can and will do it when they feel the need for it.
But the weirdest thing was that you actually answered to every one of their comments, and even still felt the need to add the obligatory "SMAP sucks" statement, dressed in various guises. So you hate the song? Why bother saying it multiple times within a short time-frame? In fact, it was only when I came around with my usual long-winded nose-picking that you started to tone that opinion down.

But at the end of the day, it's not something I lose any sleep over.

You don't care for the song? Fine. That never bothered me, it was your rhetorics that did.

Which you did do, but we'd have to have a musicological analysis on why "Ricky" supposedly has less going on in it than "That's All For Everyone". But of course, tastes are tastes, and "writing about music is like dancing about architecture".

"Everywhere" is also a relatively simple song, lyrically, and I love that song... and I know you have a deep distaste for it ("housewife music," and all that).

I do not have a deep distaste for any Fleetwood Mac song. As a great man once said: "it's a stupid thing to do, to hate music. You either care for it or you don't."
If I thoroughly hated "housewife music", I would also have to hate "Warm Ways", "Dreams", "Gypsy", "Only Over You", "Mystified", "Soul Drifter", "Nights In Estoril", "Friend", etc, most of those songs that I truly love.
I have learned to like "Everywhere" and it never took that long, at first though I felt it threatened my values of good music and my appreciation of Fleetwood Mac. It isn't all that different from what Chris did before, it was just the utter minimalism of it that initially seemed inappropriate. That's something that Chris rarely tried, maybe that's why it's still not too convincing. But a heartfelt thing it is, all the same. If I called it "housewife music", I never intended that statement to be a bashing one. Did I not call "Honey Hi" a group-sex song? Did I not call "Family Man" and "When I See You Again" self-parodies? Those are my honest opinions of them, no matter how goofball they may seem for some. Make of those what you want. But the overtones in the statements I have not intended as negative ones.
