Thinking (again) about lyrics. I'm wondering if anyone else thinks that Stevie changes her live lyrics in relation to what's going on in her life at the time.
Example: Outside the Rain: Initially, "it's one more link in the chain, I don't believe that" I take it as her telling everyone that she CAN be a successful solo artist, without Mac. She's not JUST part of the chain (the Mac). Mid 80's, live, "well, Mick says 'Stevie this is just one more link in the chain', and I say, 'I have to/do believe that/him/it'" Was this her telling everyone that she'd never break the chain? That she HAS TO believe that she'll always be a part of Mac? Other shows (later ones, if I recall, like late 80's/early 90's) she sometimes went back to "I can't/don't believe that/him." There was a lot of turmoil in the band at this time, was this a purposeful change in the lyric? Another obvious one would be "take your silver springs & dig your grave" on the BTM Tour (was that line done in Manchester only?) Any thoughts? Paula |
