I wouldn't be too worried about the merchandising. If you're bothered by that, swing by the Vatican some time. Or take a trip to Lourdes or Fatima. Plenty of merchandising.

As for whether Mel Gibson is anti-semitic, or blames the Jews for the death of Christ, the answer is in his adherence to beliefs pre-Vatican II. It's kinda like Trent Lott saying Strom Thurmond should have been president.
