![]() Agree. The band has the music sounding very close to the 1982 recorded version. I actually like how she sings it today given her limited range. Even during The Dance days, she strained to get to those notes of yonder and it sounded, well, strained. Same with Silver Springs. But fast forward to 2016, singing the bridge an octave lower from "And if I was from a child" sounds more natural without sacrificing too much emotional depth. Sharon and Marilyn sing the same melody as Stevie on those lines, so it just sounds fuller to my ears. I really enjoy what Al brings to the song, too. He has a very nuanced voice, so when he sings "Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice," it really stands out in a good way. So * * * 3/4 stars of our 5 for the 2023 Gypsy.
