I always completely disregarded this song. In fact, I would have struggled to think of how it even goes. The verses are almost spoken word, they have so little melody. But I have been listening to Trouble in Shangri La for the first time in a long time, and all the sudden I realized it's a pretty interesting song.
Am I crazy - this is almost a dance track, in a very subtle way. Probably too subtle. I think what kept me from recognizing it is when the guitar kicks in during the chorus, at that point it's just an ordinary song. Elsewhere, there are many interesting little sounds. If the atypical aspects of the song had been fully embraced instead of compromising them, I think it would have been better. What are your thoughts on this song? |
