24Kt DVD not available till Jan 15 (Blu-Ray only?)

Shouldn't they have rolled this out before Xmas to squeeze out a few extra sales?? And is offering it as Blu-Ray only a good choice? (I honestly don't know as I haven't bought a DVD for ages and never owned a Blu-Ray player.) It just seems limiting for a release that already hasn't exactly made a big splash!
